Putter Fitting / Your Gamer

I’m working on getting a putter fitting for the first time in the coming weeks, wanted to know if anyone has ever been through the process. Anything I should expect or ask?

Also always curious, what putter are you using?

100% get fit…

I went to golf headquarters in Louisville… they have an amazing reputation (locally and nationally)… started rolling putts with nick.

He asked for my current putter, took it, bent it and I’ve been rolling putts better than I ever have been. Lie and loft adjustment on a putter I’ve had since 2012.

I’m still interested in a truly fit putter, but it’s moved back to the bottom of my list.

I did one once. Not sure it really helped me.

I switched to Arm-lock earlier this year. I just sorta fit my setup and stroke to the putter.

I did a putter fitting through club pro about 6 months ago. Very interesting to see your tendencies and to get you in a putter that actually fits those tendencies. I did find it to be an adjustment period because you no longer have to compensate for your tendencies. It’s definitely worth it.

I highly recommend it. Getting fit for a putter is like getting a putting lesson. You will learn a lot about your putting.

One more thing. Have an open mind about the type of putter you’re using. If you’ve been using a mallet it may be that your stroke is more appropriate for another style of putter. Give it a chance.

Yes! You should expect to understand EVERYTHING they’re telling you … and you should ask about EVERYTHING you don’t understand at first or felt wasn’t answered fully.

You’re paying for a service, so get the most out of it. And be honest with your fitter - if, say, you always miss to the right and have problems with fast greens or slow greens or whatever … let your fitter know … the more accurate info they have about you then the more accurately they can fit a putter to you.

And be honest with yourself, too - the putter that “looks” best to you may not be the putter that performs best for you!

I’ve never been fit, and think it could improve my game, but I also switch grips sporadically which would nullify the fit. Just recently listened to this Golf Science Lab podcast which has a really good fitting conversation around the 21-25 minute mark. The whole episode is great

I’ve said it before but will say it again, if you have access to a decent fitter around you, there is no reason not to get fit…

I’m rolling the ball so much better with a loft and lie adjustment… It’s insane.

Learned lots going in for mine. Balance of the putter, discussion around blade and mallet with my tendencies… Overall great knowledge session!

I’m both excited and a little scared to find out how bad my stroke is.

I’ve been browsing possible replacements, anyone have experience with seemore putters? They look great and the alignment tech sounds awesome but curious if anyone has real world experience using them. Everything looks good in ad copy

@SeeMorePutters has some experience with them!

I’ve rolled some on a practice green and have nothing but positive things to say about them… my interactions with the company have always been positive, including telling me who to call if I’m in Nashville to get a custom fit.

I think they have a specific niche that they excel in… whether you need their alignment aid is a more personal question!

On the stroke front, they’ve seen worse. I promise. Their job is to find something that will help you putt more consistently regardless of how you deliver the putter… don’t worry about your swing, go in and have a conversation and work with the fitter… it will be a worthwhile experience.

I use a SeeMore - original FGP blade style. Bit of a happy accident and bought on a whim, I was in the market for a new putter a couple of months ago (replacing an ancient Ray Cook M1-X mallet) and it was in the second-hand section at my club’s pro shop. Apparently the original owner didn’t get on with it but from the condition I don’t think it got much of a chance…

I hadn’t heard of the company when I bought it but after a quick try on the green I decided to buy it - so easy to line up and a lovely feel off the face. That said, with all the talk of fitting I do occasionally wonder if it’s actually right for my frame!

I can’t say it has miraculously improved my main putting problem - pace control - on longer putts. But 6 feet and in I always feel very confident about the line.

Post putter adjustment I’ve seen a ton of improvement in my pace… the ball rolls significantly better off the face now that it’s adjusted.

Thank you! Not sure if your comment was aimed at me but much appreciated. Funnily enough I tried the fitting guidance on your website after reading this and it recommended the exact length/lie spec I already have (at 178cm tall I’m probably as average as it gets when it comes to equipment sizing?).

It rolls wonderfully, I think any issues are solely down to user error on my part. :slightly_smiling_face:

I’ve never been fitted for a putter, but I’d love to at some point. Over the years, I’ve gone through an extended eBay-powered process of self-fitting. Since Arccos tells me that putting is probably the strongest part of my (otherwise ordinary) golf game, I believe I’ve done something right.

For me, I’ve ended up looking for several things in a putter:

  • 34" length
  • Mallet
  • Some toe hang
  • Strong alignment indicators

So right now, my putter is the Odyssey EXO Seven Mini Slant neck:

(…teasing…)

I’ve read about your putter, and golf game, odysseys elsewhere and can attest that MPR is pretty thorough and diligent in his research and analysis!! :+1:
