Putter Fitting / Your Gamer

If your putting stats are good, you are doing something right… my putting stats were bad, and I’m tall and haven’t tried many different putters… which was silly of me.

I honestly never cared much for putting in general and didn’t focus on it much in my development. This is something I’ll probably spend the next few seasons having to rectify… I’m hoping to shore up my putting enough to get it to decent…

My stats indicate I was giving up 3-4 strokes a round on the putting green… just brutal numbers. I’ve mentioned it before, but I shot a 38 with 20 putts… and I wasn’t playing massively large greens.

I’ve shifted my focus and am working on putting now, but finding the right putter (and getting it fitted to me) was a huge step in the right direction.

Though I’m in Nashville on Thursday and Friday, so might have to go see seemore!

I’ve been examining everything in regards to my putter lately, and I’m curious if I’m playing one thats a little short for me. I bought it online a few years back before I was into golf as I am now, so I’m excited to see if that changes and how it feels

Yep, I think it’s pretty obvious where my game is decent and where it’s awful:

Wow, that is a surprising stat. I would think that that would be one of your better stats, as I feel when you get closer to single digit (in most cases) the short game is the difference, but you should be proud of the putting stats.

Not sure why it doesn’t show where my putting is in comparison… but considering I’m above average everywhere else, I can only draw one conclusion.

Hahahaha :joy: it does tell you to “consider some time chipping”

That’s true!!! I’m doing that as well… silver lining of a back injury, I guess… next season is going to be interesting… if my back recovers I should be playing the best golf of my life… if I can’t swing full, it’ll be interesting to see if I can piece together a game with my existing and recently built skills.

Just back from my fitting/lesson. Started with a little chipping review and then moved on to putting.

It’s interesting because I’m a full believer in its the golfer not the equipment when it comes to most issues in golf, but in this case it seems like an equipment change is going to do a world of good! I have been using a putter that is too long and too upright for the setup I feel most comfortable in. When I set up comfortably, the toe of the putter would come up leading to a variety of issues mostly missing left. Most of the season I’ve been attempting to fit my stroke/set up to be more upright so the club was in a better position, but this led to a lot of misses due to discomfort with the stroke.

My pro watched me hit some putts, went and grabbed his putter and it felt great. So I’ll be going a little shorter than previously at 33.5" bent 5 degrees flat! Again in most cases I advocate looking inward first, but I’m hoping these changes really bring out the best in my putting game.

Awesome!!! I’m a huge believer in Craftsman vs tools, but that doesn’t mean the tools aren’t importance!

Glad you found something that will help you be a better you! I can tell you my “fixed” putter has done wonders for my mentality on the greens.

I went through a putter fitting at Club Champion about a month ago, and it was the best thing for my putting! I had been gaming a TaylorMade spider with a fat SuperStroke grip (a 4 or 5?). I knew I liked the mallet style putters, and the SAM machine showed that I made a consistent stroke with it.

My fitter actually mixed in a hair of coaching along with the fitting. He noticed I wasn’t rotating on my spine and needed to drop my right shoulder more as I followed through (as a right-hander). That helped with my issue of pulling a lot of putts left.

He let me putt with 3 different putters and it was up to me to tell him what felt best and natural. The best part was that I ended up loving the Odyssey Stroke Lab Ten putter, but when it came to the grip, I wasn’t happy with it. He showed me an Envroll putter with one of their special grips and I loved that grip. It was a fatter grip, but flat on the left and right sides. That way I had more surface area of the grip on my palms, and for me, that was a great feel to get me to “push” the putter down the line with my right palm. That helped me feel like I made the right rotation.

He made sure he could put the Envroll grip on an Odyssey putter, and he could, so that’s what I ended up with. My experience was great, as it wasn’t busy, and he let me putt as long as I wanted with each putter.

Based on your stroke, the type of putter will be easy to figure out (mallet, blade, etc.). They’ll be able to tell you if you need a toe balanced or face balanced putter based on your stroke. From there, it comes down to hitting several putts with their suggestions and going with what feels best to you. Don’t be afraid to hit a ton of putts with each. It’s an investment and you need to feel comfortable with what you have in your hands. And don’t be afraid to try a wacky combo, mixing grips and putter heads.

The more comfort you have with a putter in your hands, the more confident you will feel. And the more confident you feel, the more putts you will make.

I’ve had 4. First, understand your miss or misses (left, right - leave it short or long) and tendencies (alignment, active trail hand, flip, etc) before going in. It’ll help the fitter. Second, own the process. Don’t be a sheep. Be active in your fitting. Ask questions. Review the data being gathered. Confidence is key in putting so you need to be confident in what you’re getting for it to be successful.

I also had a round with a 38 and 20 putts in my league…and lost by one stroke…
After that round I bought the Sik Armlock. I wasn’t “fit” for it other than conversations with them on the phone and it did take some getting used to, but no more 20 putt rounds for 9 holes anymore…putting like that is enough to drive me insane…

I recently had a putter fitting…helped my confidence soooo much! I’ve gone between heel shafted vs center shafted…face balanced vs toe hang…blade vs mallet. My fitter had me hit a series of putts with multiple putters of different varieties and lengths.

Ultimately (maybe most impressive to me) he took my White Hot RX #7 and took a few degrees of loft off… it was the best putter I hit both in feel and in the actual data. In other words…he didn’t try to sell me a putter (and I totally would have bought one  ).

Ask about length, weight, face balance, styles, etc.

I fit myself for length and lie angle on SeeMore’s website. Went from a 33.5” to 35.5”. I feel much more comfortable and relaxed now. Eyes are in a better spot to naturally make my perception match reality.

Asked for a full putter fitting at Club Champion for my Christmas present from the wife! I am very interested to see what loft I should be in based on my preferred ball position and club delivery. Also very curious about the different balance technologies. The thing I get most concerned about in my putting is path, tempo, and contact, all of which I think could be massively helped by the balance technology of the putter matching my preferences. Seems like the Odyssey Stroke Lab shafts really help stabilize and smooth out the stroke as well.

I’ve been gaming the same putter for two years. I’m so streaky with it, though. When it’s hot it’s scorching. The last three months it feels like a foreign object, though. Very likely going in for a fitting in a couple weeks.

My new putter arrived yesterday, naturally the day that we get snow and temps drop all weekend. Looks like it’ll wait a week to debut on the course, so we’ll spend the week getting to know each other rolling some putts in the basement

Nice! Did you get the seemore? They seem to be popular, I’m curious as to how you like it.

So I’ve had my current putter for two seasons, and have been working hard on improving my putting = start line & distance control plus my green reading = an AimPoint clinic.

I really like my current putter - self-selected after an in-store trial of it and several others, and also compared to the then-current gamer.

It felt nicely balanced and seemed to fit me well enough … but this season I started wondering if maybe I’d do better with it, say, +1° upright; or more or less loft; etc.

Went in to a local independent, highly regarded shop - came out with the exact same putter, just one small adjustment to my setup - and it was way way worth it!!

They use a Quintic system, and the fitter asked questions about my putting tendencies, measured everything about my putter and my stroke on 7, 3 and a few 20 footers. He showed me graphically (on-screen) what my path and face contact looked like.

He had me test a few things on a few more putts, and set up in front of a mirror where he suggested move “a skosh” (technical fitting term ) back and had me check in the mirror for reference.

Then back to the putting mat and a few more putts and another look at the face contact graphic - this time much closer to almost dead center on every putt!

And he said now your putter is really right for you, I wouldn’t change anything and I can’t put you into anything better for you. Wow.

Gotta say putts feel more solid now :+1:

So moral of the story… if you have any kind of doubt or question about your putter then find a quality, well-regarded fitter you can trust and go get fit!

Just got fit for my new putter at Club Champion. Loved the process. Simple, but full of details that really really matter. I will say the fitting I did with Edel a few years ago seemed a little more detailed in regard to putter weight, etc. But this fitting with Club Champion didn’t leave me feeling like anything was missing. I trust my fitter, Graham, completely. He’s got me dialed in up and down my bag.

The SAM Putter Lab is awesome and gives you a ton of feedback. Fittings are not lesson times - I repeat, fittings are NOT lesson times - but if you’re savvy you can learn a lot about your stroke and make adjustments if need be.

My tendency on short putts is a dead push, so we tested putters with different weighting. What worked best for me was face balanced. We also eliminated blades. They don’t fit my eye or my stroke.

We ruled out inserts next by feel and how the face got the ball rolling. I do much better with a milled face. My current gamer is a fang style Odyssey, but the mid-blade style really felt stable and easy to get square at impact.

At this point I was looking at three putters. A small fang style Edel, the E4 Torque Balanced. The SiK DW Standard. And the EVNRoll ER2 Mid-Blade.

I liked the SiK off the face, but I still struggle a little with my right miss on short putts. Really great putter, though. Small note: I did try arm lock. Not for me. Couldn’t get a 15 footer to the hole.

The Edel felt the best off the face. What an immense improvement on their pixel inserts - which I have in my old Edel E-1. Though it felt incredible, I had a harder time starting it on the intended line. I made a lot of putts of 10-15 feet, but really struggled in close.

The EVNRoll - my God what a putter. The feel is a very very close second to the Edel. It’s almost effortless to start on the intended line and rolls truer than any putter I’ve ever used. I was surprised how well the mid-blade fit my eye. I love looking down at this putter. I love setting it up with the single sight line and two very subtle dots. I made everything from everywhere.

If it isn’t obvious, I went with the EVNRoll and I couldn’t be happier. We got my specs dialed in - 35”, 4 degrees of loft because I do a slight forward press, and 68 degrees lie because I like my hands a little bit low while keeping my eyes over the ball. I’m putting a Rosemark 1.38 grip on it. If you haven’t tried a Rosemark out, do it. They feel amazing. I generally use the Super Stroke Traxion 2.0, but my stroke is very consistent so we decided I don’t need anything to help quiet my hands.

My new weapon should be here in two weeks. In the meantime I have this bad boy below to demo. Took out in the heavy wind today after my fitting and it rolled pure as can be. I’m in love.
