eating words…weather doesn’t seem that bad
right on cue - it’s pouring
Ha, I’m playing Scott’s guy Will Zalatoris.
I haven’t looked to see if anyone started Reed…
Wolff went out and shot +6 then withdrew. Waste of a pick there for me LOL. Should be a good Sunday of golf. The course is playing fairly tough. I’m eager to see the US Open layout .
DraftKings has Reed paying 26-1 odds to win the Masters. 5 bucks pays $130 That is some decent value. I know it’s the Masters but still. Past winner and plays that course well. That line could move with a win today.
I’m not sure how you’d measure this, but it would be interesting to see his “value” in leagues like ours (no money involved) vs gambling for real cash… I’d bet he is one of the most undervalued guys in free leagues (while someone like Tiger is the most overvalued). I’m curious if that carries over to people playing for money.
I want an asterisk on any win with reed on your team! (Not really)
That’s true, big names create big attention not always big value.
I guess to quantify value without money you have to assign a point system linked to stats like course history, recent form, strikes gained ’X’, I’m sure there are endless things you can compare. I’m pretty sure the pros online use programs filled with all this to make picks. Run the names through the program 10,000x and it spits out picks.
Waste management next week is a fun tournament. Usually the fans make the tournament fun so we will see. I read that 5,000 fans per day will be the limit. I wonder what 16 is going to look like haha.
Looks like your boy Max Homs has a top ten last year and 26th the year before. He’s playing well. I think it’s the week for me to start him. It’s an all star field with quite a few big names!
I haven’t looked at the field yet… should be a good tournament.
Max is playing well… it’s been interesting to listen to him talk about his mental game recently of basically only thinking about the shot he’s on. His back to back birdies after the triple are a good example of some resilience.
I think he will notch up a win at some point this season.
Honestly, i was happy my zalatoris pick went so well this week… I’m hoping to get better at identifying “sleeper” picks, if that’s actually a skill.
Zalatoris isn’t a sleeper pick - he’s top 60 in the world and that’s with limited PGA starts. He’s a stud and very consistent.
I like this format, but wish it was tiered somehow so you were forced to make picks of guys outside the top 50 (right now only forced if you use up the big names or didn’t think a big name would play well)
Really enjoying the upgraded website… it’s nice to clearly see who everyone else picked!
NeSmith is a ‘new guy’ most people probably don’t know much about. I read about him online and took a look at his past results for the year. He looks like he is streaky from the past year or so of history. But he plays well! Last week at Torrey Pines he really did play pretty great. I think what I was reading said he gained almost two strokes to the field with approach shots.
Move to this week at an easier course, still playing well, greens and weather are a bit easier.
That’s my reasoning but honestly it’s always a bit of luck too.
I try to structure my picks kind of like traditional fantasy lineups where I have the mvp, the mid level and the dark horse. Not always the best route with these rules but it’s what I have been doing.
He was my dark horse
Billy horshel on the bench for round 1. He went 5 under. Keeping my bad picking streak alive.
That’s a DEEP dive for a dude who went MC, MC, T-48
Fantasy golf is crazy though, any given week a guy can just go off. Kudos for having some type of reasoning rather than a random click (or my tendency to always have at least one Korean golfer, although I skipped that this week)
We got that in common. I trusted Rickie over him.
Random side note - I haven’t played golf with Rickie Fowler, but I did play golf with the actor who was the announcer in the Rocket Mortgage commercial where Rickie “made a rollercoaster of a putt over a subtle buried elephant.”
Well I’ve sufficiently crapped the bed with my picks this week. I’ll be lucky to get 4 making the cut
Haha, we should start a thread on “who’s the most obscure famous person you’ve played golf with?”… I played a round with Kurt Fuller… (he played Rob Lowe’s assistant in Wayne’s World). Nice enough guy, but had a filthy mouth… I was 22ish and a little offended.
Haven’t played with anyone famous. Caddied in a group with Maury Povich (good player).
