Golf Sub 70 Clubs

I am currently playing the Sub70 699 Pro and I love them. They are consistent and forgiving. Love the customer service. I replaced my hybrid with the 699 Pro 2 iron with a Hzerdous shaft and I am finding fairways and greens even in the wind. They are worth a hard look.

@Sub70_Jay - Hi Jay, taking you up on your offer of Q&A here!

So I’m a solidly intermediate, recreational bogey golfer … working hard to get better. In irons, I recently switched to PXG 0211s from Apex CF16s (all the specs are essentially identical; shafts are similar) and really like 'em … a little more GI vs the Apex and - along with lessons and practice - my dispersion and ratio of solid strikes are both improving.

Question is…
I hit my 7i well enough but am still a bit 50-50 with the 6i, and after the 6i then I have hybrids then woods. Not crazy about higher lofted hybrids so looking for an in-betweener club that -I- can hit with confidence…

Moderate swing speed, trying to smooth out my transition and tempo.

So I’m looking at the higher lofted 699 (non-pro) utility iron, eg. 5 or 6.

I know you aren’t seeing me swing nor hit the ball, but was wondering if you can you give me any guidance on whether the UI would even work for me on that slot…? Thx!

I love my 699 utility, but don’t struggle with launch… I’ll say it can launch high and the hollow head is designed for that! They also have a great demo program… I don’t think you need the utility, just the regular 699 is fine… they have a great demo program but you can also take a $100 leap of faith and give one a try!

Thx for that. Did look at the demo, the one listed is lower loft than what I want but if I were gonna jump in I guess I would call and ask for availability.

The 699U line is definitely designed to be forgiving and get the ball up where it needs to be. It’s definitely a good option especially if you don’t like the look/feel/performance of a hybrid. The 699 irons in general could provide some more launch and forgiveness, especially on the longer irons 4-6 for example. I would reach out to Jason at 815-621-3556 or [email protected] and he may be able to make some recommendations. We should be able to figure it out whether you go the demo program route and just purchase something close and then we go from there. If you have any questions you can always reach me at [email protected] or 630-333-8270 as well. Thank you!

Thx for the reply - great info, thanks!

I’ll definitely inquire about a demo … sounds like the right route :+1:

Look great… I might end up with 2 this season.

These are nice - still not available yet but should be early 2021

I’m in the market for new irons and these look like the front runner

Those will be $990…

I’m actually intrigued by the new 649 which will be out soon.

I’m not too concerned with the price as the other iron sets I’m considering are at least a few hundred more than that. I’d like to see some top line photos of a few of the irons at address as I like a fairly narrow top line. Also I was hoping that they would have a Gap Wedge with the same specs as an option for the set instead of stopping at PW like they have with their other iron options.

Yeah, still a value at that price! Just sharing what knowledge I have on them… not sure if you’ve seen the 649, but I’m really interested in them.

Those are nice too but I wish they’d make them in Black - the look is pretty busy on the back of the blade for my eye so a darker finish would be more appealing for me. My current set is 9 years old Adams CB2’s (hence why new irons are being bought soon) and I love the darker/duller (not shiny) finish especially on sunny days.

My index is below 1 so both sets fit what I’m looking for - may have to do a demo

I’ll warn you on the black that the face shows wear quickly… I’ve got a 639 5 iron and haven’t hit it that much and it’s already showing wear… I’m not upset, but will probably move to silver irons from them.

I’m gaming cmbs, so I know what you mean on old irons… though I got them last January to replace my 25 year old Taylor mades.

I’m probably going to pull the trigger on a set of sub70 this season, just not sure which ones anymore. I might end up just ordering a (for example) a ta3 pw built to my specs and seeing if I like it… I’d prefer to spend the $140ish on a club I get to keep vs the “lost” $20 on a demo. Maybe I’m insane.

Pretty excited to know that you guys have a trade-in program. I think I’ll be giving you my PXG’s in exchange for some of your beautiful clubs that are fitted for me. Question for @Sub70_Jay if I do a fitting at your facility should I just bring the trade-in clubs with me? Or should I go through your online trade-in process and get shipping label and whatnot? I work down in Peru, Illinois for OSF Life-flight two weeks a month. Quick drive up for me during the day when I am on my night shifts. Would love to set up an appointment.

You might want to e-mail them directly… [email protected] is always quick to respond…

I’d assume if you are going to be there anyways, you might as well bring in the PXGs.

Which set are you looking at? I was about to pull the trigger on a combo set, but got furloughed that same day.

I’m thinking the 639cbs or the 699. Kind of a no brainer with the trade-in they’re practically free.

Nice! I love my 639 CB 5 iron (though I’d get it in silver if I did it again).

Hey thanks for the message! I’d reach out to Jason to setup a visit. You can always call or text him at 815-621-3556 as well. As far as the trade in goes…2nd Swing handles that program but we could possibly ship them from our location. I can also provide our contact’s info over at 2nd Swing if you need it as well. If you have any questions just let me know. Thanks again!

Two years of a swing change and a year of stalking Sub70 I finally pulled the trigger. Traded in my pxg irons for some sub70 699’s I can’t wait to get and put them in play. Jason coordinated a call & spent at least 45 minutes of his time with me at 930pm, because that’s what worked for me! Talk about outstanding Customer Service. Can’t wait to see the facility where I go pick them up!!!

Awesome! Jason is great to talk to… just a fun guy who is passionate about golf and his golf company.

Enjoy the 699s… depending on how my year goes, I might be pulling the trigger on some 649s. Need to get healed up and spend some time on a launch monitor with my current stuff, though… More than anything, I want different iron shafts (I think), and if I’m going to do that, I might as well just get a whole new set of irons.

I really like my 699 utility iron!
