Practice Challenge - Sinks (Putting)

Kicking off the practice challenge threads. Let’s plan on posting a challenge each month. We can take suggestions on the thread @craigers started.

Game: Sinks

Description: Set up 9 holes between 10-30 ft on your practice green. Move around the green to encourage some randomness. Each hole is “Par 2”. Go through your full routine and try to get home in two. I would suggest putting three putts in 10-15 ft zone, three putts in 15 to 25 ft zone and three 30 ft putts. Mix up uphill/downhill and left/right/straight to simulate a random round

Scoring: Keep your total score, and proximity of 1st putt. Post both of these numbers along with your current handicap. Play the game as many times as you want.

Note I think think the thread will work better if you record all scores in a single post. So if I play the game four times this month, I will edit my first “scoring post” and add an update with a new entry. Hope that makes sense

I’ll compile scores and post a google doc at the end of the month if that works

Handicap: 6.5

10/9/20
Total putts: 21 (3 over)
Avg. Proximity (1st putt): 4.1 total, 2 ft excluding outlier

Even par through 7 holes. Then got rejected on an uphill putt through the two tiers… ball didn’t make it to the top and rolled back down the hill to 20’!!!

Finished that up with a 3 putt on a tough 40 ft.

Challenged myself with shot selection, but noticed I was better coaxing the ball down the hill vs long uphiller that I really had to whack

Not to highjack your thread, or the challenge games but I was wondering if anyone uses the CoreGolf app? It has a number of practice challenges set up and might be a good platform if enough of us use it.

I don’t have experience with apps.

I’m pretty old school… journal and very basic excel table

Handicap: 6.5

Got some drugs pumped into my back this morning, so i figured I should see how it felt on the putting green. Due to covid our practice green has flags but no holes… we also just aerated. I am confident any putt I counted as sunk would have fallen in the hole… feel free to add a mental asterisk.

Putts: 18. 1 three putt, 1 one putt.

My two worst putts were both when I was trying to sink it from far away. With the adjusted putter I feel like I have significantly better distance control.

Of the 8 second putts, 4 were inside gimme range, 2 were pretty easy 3-4 footers and 2 made me sweat (I went 1/2).

I’m actually fairly happy with the outcome… definitely have seen improvement on my distance control. Hopeful it will translate to actual play.

Bonus points for the picture!

On my way out for my first sinks putting challenge. But first, I will practice what I learned from my AimPoint express putting DVD. Once I feel I have a little bit of a grasp on it, I will commence to smashing the challenge!!! Talk soon, ladies and gents.

Initial attempt after 30 minute practice with AimPoint knowledge. First impression of AimPoint practice, it is magical. It really takes any guess work or self doubt out of the putt. Read what you feel, make the read against the cup, aim to your point, hit the speed, let physics do the work. I absolutely love it. Definitely going to hone this skill. I can say this, I’ve never pitted as consistently as I did this morning and I never felt pressure, I felt like, this is the read trust it and putt it.

Great proximity my friend!! If you keep filling up that zone, some of those putts are going drop for 1 putts!!

Yes sir! It’s honestly the best I’ve ever putted.

Well I’m glad SOMEBODY putted well!!!

I’ll have to give it another go on Sunday. Updated my original post with a p*ss poor effort

Also, with I assume this challenge is actually harder than an average 9 holes

Assume one would miss some greens and chip it inside of 6 ft

Hopefully… More than anything, I’m hoping my adjusted putter, practice and less aggressive approach leads to better scores.

where is that app located. I looked in the play store but could not find it. Is that what it is called?

It’s called Core Golf - Driving Range. Unfortunately, it is only available in the Apple App Store at this time. Sorry

ahhhh. Ok ty I guess i will have to wait for it to come to an Android near me.
