My SkyTrak Journey

I was rather surprised today to see disc golfers on the fairway I was playing - a hilly one, was lucky I saw them before making my shot!

Disc golf on the golf course is an interesting subject. As a disc golfer I love playing those places. As a golfer I wouldn’t want the disc golfers out on my lawn…

I updated the first post with a new picture after building my wall. I’m hoping to get it all mudded and painted soon, but it is very usable as is right now.

Ok, I finally got the time to finish the drywall, paint, and floor. Pretty happy with how it turned out!

Grandpa’s persimmon woods. The driver is 48"

My achievements. The irons are still my favorite set I’ve ever owned - Nike blades.

The Tiger swing sequence is a nice reference. Underneath is my long-time gamer, the Scotty Cameron Newport 2 Stainless which was the same model Tiger used for many years.

A mirror to check swing positions is a must. I collect ballmarks for courses I’ve played. And apparently I collect training aids and golf books.

this is awesome! How are you connecting the SkyTrak to the TV?

I’ve been looking at both the Spornia or Net Return. How loud is the Spornia?

I use AirPlay from my iPad to a FireStick running AirStream. Works really well.

It isn’t too loud but it is louder than a plain net without the cloth hanging. My driver is way louder at impact. I am super happy with the net.

You should be - that is NICE!!! Really nice job; nicely organized :+1:
(… Now can I hire you to fix up my garage?)

Also have a Spornia and also really happy with it. Yeah there’s an impact noise but it seems that material on the back will save a lot of wear on the netting itself, so hopefully the thing lasts a looooong time.

I love it, congrats on the cool setup!

I totally bit the bullet and bought a Skytrak today. I think I finally bugged my wife enough by talking about it incessantly and she said, just do it if you and Carter( 10 year old son) are going to use it. So I did haha. Now I have to wait 10-12 weeks for it. Kinda like purchasing your vacation and having the excitement anticipation. But we can’t vacation right now so… here we go.

Nice! My club (which is 2 minutes up the hill from me) finally pulled the trigger on the GCQuads, but we are waiting on the install team… I’m hoping to get some reps in this winter and come out swinging in spring.

That’s really cool, my coach has the gcquad with the foresight software, it’s really awesome. Just REALLY expensive. For commercial applications it’s a great way to go.

Skytrak I saw will switch back and forth between lefty and righty in some simulation software, Like TGC. I saw some people marked the floor with masking tape to easily switch back and forth between lefty and righty. Since I’m a lefty I have to deal with this. About Golf simulator I played before and it’s overhead and there was no need to switch the unit but again $$$. I’m ok with the trade offs for the 2k price tag of the skytrak.

Yeah, our club spent 50k on the equipment… we are going to have 2 bays.

I’m still working with the board to actually monetize them, but they don’t listen to my long rambling e-mails…

I’ve suggested forming leagues, having monthly / weekly contests to drive engagement, and practice routines to make sure people are getting value from them.

Half the membership was against spending the money, even though it’s one of the few places we can actually add revenue for the club.

Some clubs around here do leagues over the winter to the tune of $400 per person great revenue for the club during dormant times! But I’m just a player not a board member haha

Looks great. What are the dimensions of your hitting mat?

Thanks. The mat is 48" x 60" which seems to be plenty of space for now. When it wears out I’ll explore other options.

Fyi … some high end mat makers sell strips … you can cut out the worn part of your existing mat and fill in with the new strip.

This is really good to know, thanks!

Ok, so I have noticed a new problem I never thought I’d have. I’m breaking brand new Pro V1s every few days. The ball cracks and, if I don’t notice soon enough, splits apart. So I’m thinking I’ll be using balls out of my shag bucket instead of eating up these expensive ones.
