Looking for Tips to Increase My Iron Shot Consistency

Hello Everyone :hugs:,

I’ve been a serious golfer for a number of years, and although I’ve improved a lot in many areas of my game, I still have trouble hitting my irons consistently. I’ve made significant progress with my driver and short game, but my inconsistent iron play is beginning to prevent me from cutting my handicap.

To put things in perspective, I usually play two or three times a week and spend extra time honing my skills at the range. I usually struggle with inconsistent contact, but my regular iron shot is either a straight shot or a tiny fade. I’ll lose accuracy and distance because I’ll either thin the ball or catch it a little fat.

I’ve attempted a number of drills to get better at hitting the ball, such concentrating on weight transfer and maintaining a steady head, but I haven’t noticed the results I was looking for. Additionally, I’m attempting to improve my speed and make sure that the backswing and downswing flow naturally, but the results have been inconsistent once more.

  • Which particular exercises, methods, or regimens have you discovered work well for increasing iron consistency?
  • Is it better for me to concentrate on my grip, stance, or even just mental exercises like visualisation?
  • Do you advise hiring a professional coach at this point, or are there some basics I can take care of on my own?

I would highly appreciate any suggestions on frequent blunders that might be the source of these snowflake problems.

Thank you  in advance.

With irons I make sure my left shoulder is high enough at address to fully extend my lead arm. This gives me room to sweep my irons without having my arm straighten making my arm longer and thus hit the ground. You will need to realise that what works for me may not work for you

Wish I could help, but sounds like you know way more about the golf swing than I…!

Otoh and not to be nasty, but… curious though why you would quote a book for sale … that you say you’re not “advertising” … and also link to an external site … neither of which have anything to do with working on a golf swing?
