Golf Sub 70 Clubs

Are you thinking about moving to the 699 Pro in 8-PW? or more utility vs hybrid?

I’d say if you are launching the 5 iron well with the utility, stick with that, and only move into a hybrid if you want more height out of your club…

I play an 18 degree hybrid and a 22 degree 699u, and they are great setup for me, as if I need to keep something low, I hit the utility and if I need to hit it high, I hit the hybrid.

They both fill roles as “position” clubs (I’m less worried about how they land on greens, though I can get the hybrid to stop) and are primarily used to get my back into play and set up a 2nd or 3rd shot.

The differences between the Utility and the 699 are minimal… I think it’s slight more offset.

While I love the look of the black finish on the 699 Pro, I think the regular 699 already gives me some room for my ability to grow into them. Definitely more about figuring out where to add hybrids and whether or not to mix in any utilities.

I’m getting better at launching the 5 utility. I’m glad I got to try it, but would also have loved to try a regular 5 or 6 699 iron to know how they differ.

Which do you think would have more offset, utility or regular iron? Despite my higher handicap, I think I prefer less offset. I couldn’t stand the Callaway clubs I tried at a demo day last year because of the amount of offset and how chunky they looked. I know it’s supposed to help, but it just made me feel uncomfortable.

@Sub70_Jay can you help out here? I think the utility had more offset… I could even probably look it up…

Offset us .2 more on the utility…

It actually depends on the club/loft. They’re really close…tenths of a millimeter either way. Here are the offset numbers in mm…

4 irons
699 - 5.7mm
699U - 5.5mm

5 irons
699 - 5.0mm
699U - 5.2mm

6 irons
699 - 4.3mm
699U - 4.7mm

The 699U Pro could be an option if you want less offset in those longer irons. The Pro only goes 2-4 iron but the offset numbers on the 699U Pro are…

2 - 4mm
3 - 3.75mm
4 - 3.5mm

I demo’d the 699s. They were really great and as you have seen by many posts Jason is great and very helpful.

Perhaps this?

I never felt like a golf club wanted to punch me in the face before, but I’m pretty sure those clubs want to punch me in the face. (and I’m strangely okay with that)

They aren’t like anything I’ve ever played, but I want a set…

Thanks for the info! The offset of the 5 utility is fine with me, and if the utility helps fly the ball a little higher, that’s probably good for me. I’m so close to choosing my Sub70s! Considering demoing a hybrid now.

I own two Sub70 wedges. They are the best wedges I’ve ever owned. They still perform well after 150+ rounds.

I’ve hit the 699s and the Pro Fairway wood. Both are really good. I’ll eventually buy the 699/699 pro combo set. Just need to convince the wife. The price tag will help with that!

I was really impressed with the 2 8 irons I hit today from your set.

My demo 639 CBs arrived Friday, they look awesome. So far I’ve only hit a few practice balls at home, looking forward to getting them out on the range to really get the feel

I concur that you hit them very well with no warm up. My swing was terrible today but the ones I put a good move on felt great. Even the driver which had been pretty good the last 5 rounds or so was terrible. That’s golf… Let me know if you need help convincing your wife. :joy:

It might be Greaver Cup or Irons in 2021. :man_shrugging:

for any curious, I got to try out my demo 639 CBs yesterday. the clubs are phenomenal, unfortunately they were in my hands and after spending a little time with them I don’t think my swing/game is up to their level.

I’ve been reading about the 699 Pros and they seem to be exactly what I’m looking for, combining game improvement with playability. Planning on getting another demo set to try out before making any decisions

@Sub70_Jay Assuming travel is possible next year, do you all do live fittings at the factory? I would see that as a fun and useful trip to take!

We’re doing fitting at our facility in Sycamore, IL now. It’s a great time. No cost, no obligation and you can try out whatever you want. All of the fittings are done by our CEO Jason or VP Dan
