At Home Simulators

I started with a SkyTrak, but have since upgraded to Uneekor QED. I run TGC 2019 and have DIY 16x9x4 enclosure.

Our club spent 50k, this is bay one of 2.

My cost is $20 per quarter… some members are complaining. I’ve already logged enough time to “pay” for the next two years.

They’re complaining about $80/yr for full access to sims? Oof. Tough crowd.

Per my pro… “they are calling from their house in Florida to complain, so I don’t really care”…

Country clubs are interesting places… I played golf with one guy wearing a very nice watch and a ratty glove, because his $5 mg glove restock hadn’t come in yet…

They’ll complain about $80 for a simulator drinking $5 coors light…

But yeah, it’s awesome. I’m fortunate to have access to it (i live in the neighborhood, so it’s a 5 minute golf cart ride). I’m very spoiled.

It seems like simulators are becoming a must have for most clubs, so hopefully cost goes down for everyone and access improves.

Oh I get it. The things the “old money” finds to complain about at my club shouldn’t shock me anymore, but it does. Like the guys who were up in arms when they made the life guards switch from bikinis to one-pieces - granted 100% of them are teenage girls. Don’t even get me started on that. Blecchhh.

Having access to the sims is huge and wonderful, but there’s fights over time just like there are battles over recurring tee times. You’d think retirees would be more flexible while those of us holding down 9-5s would have more scheduling issues. Guess as a busy dad I’m just happy any time I can get a club in my hand.

Recurring tee times are bull shit

I found the answer to this. It’s cancel a vacation to northern Minnesota she didn’t want to go on in the first place, then use the money and call it your birthday present. Boom. Skytrak ordered.

Update: I got my Skytrak today! I built a platform to level my mat in my garage since I’m one of these with a sloped garage floor. I’ve got my Spornia net all set up. 40” TV I’m going to run the Skytrak software from my iPhone to using a lightning to HDMI cord (hopefully that works).
Super super excited to get it charged and set up. Little bit of a dream come true to have a legit sim setup in my house. Big day for the big dad.

Started with a lot of PVC and a net.

Added a skytrack and a full enclosure. Still not good enough.

This is my original Skytrak setup. It came out better than I could have imagined.

Love it. Who has tips for getting this thing connected? I, for the life of me, can not get the app and unit to connect and I’m not tech stupid. It’s driving me nuts.

The only connection issues I had were when I would try to connect in networ mode, but I think that was a wifi issue. Direct mode always worked for me.

Are you using an iPad? Have you ever tried with an iPhone? I’m two days in and haven’t been able to get mine connected. Probably going to have to get on the phone with Skytrak on Monday. Annoying.

We have been thinking we may downsize in a few years, but now I want to add on to my house! I need higher ceilings!

Got everything working with the Skytrak. Had to get a new iPad for it to work, but we were overdue for one anyway. The kiddo will get the old one.
Got my “sim bay” as set up as it can be in the space we have. I think I’ve given up my garage parking space, but it’s worth it to me.

What’s everyone using for mats for your setup?

Mine is fine. It’s semi-upgraded. I don’t find that I have any issues with my wrists or club damage, but I’m not 100% sold on it. It’s a 5’x4’ that I had to build a platform for to level it since my garage floor is sloped. It works, but I’m not sure if it’ll hold up now that I’m using it a lot more.
