Good points, thank you. The weight issue I think is real. I also need to have the feel of roll my wrists over more which gives me a functional shot.

If the rest of my game was in the same place I would be more worried (in fact I’d probably give up) but I am sure I can sort it…maybe.

I hit the ball really well yesterday. I hit 9 gir. Unfortunately hit a drive OB but had 7 pars and a birdie. The best I have hit my irons in a long long time. Butchered 2 pars with 3 putts. Long putts with lots of break. And I fluffed a chip on 13. Also had some good luck. My 3/4 4i at the par 3 2nd was heading for the bunker but landed short and kicked left and onto the green and finished at 2ft. On the 8th to a green on a hill, another 3/4 4i . Again landed short and looked like it might be in the bunker. Found it on the green. So lucky.

Its great you acknowledge the good breaks you had, too many focus on bad bounces only. I think when playing golf there is no good or bad luck. Its just golf!! Sounds like a really good round though. GIR is my big weakness, 3 or 4 is a good round for me!

That sounds like me too 3-4-5gir. That is why 9gir was so special. Played 36 holes today and hit 11gir

I envy all of you who could play Spring Golf.
I am laying low until the course condition is better ( still muddy and wet in spots over most the golf courses here )with warmer temperature. The green fees had already jumped to peak season rate from March 1st, but the condition of the golf courses won’t be “peak season” until maybe mid June.
I’ll visit the driving range to spot for my friends and for my wife, maybe get on the practice green after the scaring from sanding is healed.
Can’t justify paying peak rate for Spring golf at me age.
Although, I had been through all kinds of weather and condition on the golf course when I was much younger.
Like I said, I envy those who could enjoy the Springtime golf.

Teed of at 0756 this morning in the rain and fog.First time this year there has been standing water on the course.2nd green had puddles and the 11th had casual water on the right half. Lots of pins were full of water. No mud yet and I played ok. The rain stopped on the 6th and I was 4 over after 6 with 3 pars. Finished with 8 pars.Got lucky on 5. Bladed my chip but a puddle on the green stopped it 3ft past the hole. Went into 3 bunkers and got out in 1 each time. One was a fairway bunker where I creamed a 6i 146m over a greenside bunker and onto the green. On the 16th I went 1m too far off the tee and had an unplayable that led to a triple. Landed on the back of the green and bounced down a bank under tree roots. Only place to drop was 20m further back on the next tee. Had to hit back up over the trees to a green running away from me. Finished 1ft short of the front bunker and chipped too hard 2 putting for 6. Finished 16 over playing to my handicap. Trying conditions early but finished in sunshine

As long as you had fun playing in the rain.
I remember those days with standing water on the golf course and rooster tails coming up after the putting on the green.
Had done so when I was much younger, but, I am not motivated to go out if the golf course is too muddy, having standing water in spots, grips are getting too wet to hold on to. I know, I’m getting picky in my older self.
Then again, my body will not bounce back as quickly as when I was younger. Not a cup of hot tea or a bowl of chicken soup could lift me out of the after effects from golf during the bad weather now.

I envy those of you, who could still enjoy golf in the raining and not so perfect condition. I certainly had my share of it.

I don’t wear a glove and my driver slipped due to wet grip/hands on one shot. We were a group of 3 and both my partners were in their 70’s. On the first my drive finished with a tree blocking the green. I hooked a low running 3i to the back fringe then up and down for par. Then on the 2nd I hit a 4i to 6ft. Yes I was having fun. Only casual water no mud yet. I have a brolly and a rain jacket so am prepared for nearly any weather.

Played two balls again today. Only hit 3gir. A 4i to the first, a7i to 2ft on the 12th and a hooked 7i from the wrong fairway through a tree on 17. Just as well my short game was ok. 16 up and downs and only 1 three putt. Ended up shooting 16 over and 13 over with 11 pars and a birdie. The course is very wet and I saw mud for the first time today. With more rain forecast and Winter officially starting on Wednesday it is going to be even more crucial to hit ball first. A few fat shots today so room for improvement.

Blink, blink… Oh yeah, you’re in Australia! Mystery solved…

The 11 pars and 1 bird are from counting both balls’ scores together right? 14-15 over with only 3 GIR for both balls is some pretty nifty short game work.

@Jayjay Yes my short game was on fire. 16 one putt greens and no butchered pars. The coldest winter day here in the last 10 years was 10degs and the only snow is on the highest hill and only lasts a few hours if it lands at all.

+3 Vs Hdcp. 5 pars, 7 bogeys, 4 doubles & 2 blow-up quads :exploding_head:
Highlights of day:
almost chipping in 3x; setting up tap in
out of sand well all 3 times
8 FWs & 35 putts

Such a strange game. Last Friday, I squeezed in 9 holes…shot 50. Worst outing in maybe 5 years. I was so frustrated with my putting that I bought a left handed side saddle (still waiting for it to arrive) online.

Went out today and got a quick 9 in…shot 2 over 37. 7 pars, 2 bogeys. 7 of 9 fairways or GIR off the tee. No three putts until the 9th hole for my second bogey of the day. I had a work meeting at 9am I could not miss. I thought about quitting my job to go another 9 and see if I could break 80 for the 3rd time in my life…alas…I really like my job and likely would have blown up on the back 9

Is this round with your modified bag still? Do you feel the ball striking is improving? Sounds like this is working for you!

I had a very nice 9 hole round in league the other night, making 2 birdies and shooting below my index, but I got beat like a drum so I still wasn’t happy lol. On the plus side the hook I had going on my last round was gone…at least for now.

@tsmith: 12 clubs, that’s a full bag for me Decently improved strike, about 70% good, was maybe 50%, before my experiment.

+2 Hdcp. 2 pars, 9 bogeys, 6 doubles :worried: & 1 snow man on a p5
0 Highlights today: super soggy course conditions
out of sand well 3 for 4
9 FWs & 38 putts (too many real long 1st ones)

Drove to course today and could see water running across the road off the course. I was anticipating mud and more mud after 60mm on Saturday but was pleasantly surprised. No mud and no standing water. Started par par hitting the first 2 greens in reg. Finished with 8p from 4 gir. I holed some great putts. The water had compacted all the bunkers and I hit 2 great bunker shots for 2 sandies. Finished 8p 8b 2d with 30 putts for 12 over. Lots of damage on the course. Back in February half the 14th was rebuilt. They dropped the green by 1.5m and used the dirt to level out the fairway. (used to have a vicious slope down into the trees). Part of the new fairway has sunk 1ft and the drain is exposed where the flow of water washed away all the sand around it. Washed all the sand down a big bank across the 12th and down to towards the fence. On the 11th there is a huge gouge out of the path and where the water turned left by the 12th tee it washed all the gravel onto to the area in front of the tee. Apart from these instances the course has held up really well. A few new lakes have appeared and the only really wet place was the 18th at the bottom of the hill. There are a lot of ropes around the course restricting where you can walk to protect the course.

Played twice this weekend and 2 different course that I haven’t played in years. Hit the ball pretty well, but just could not score at all.

Except for 1 birdie each day, I didn’t make a putt over 2 ft. Chipping and putting I just could not seem to get speed and/or line quite right. I played bogey golf, but I felt like I was right there for par on most every hole and kept finding a way to make bogey. Maybe I need to get away from my home course a bit more often.
