Woof. Good rounds feeding off each other!
76 with four birdies
Doubled 16 and 18 after hitting both drives one step into junk that I had to take unplayable out ofā¦ not bad swings, reviewed on google earth and since we were playing a tee box up I should have hit 3 wood (left half of the dispersion ran out at 250ā¦. Arghhh so obvious after actually looking at the hole on satellite )
Nice day overall thoughā¦ was striping the big stick
Had a weird one on Saturday. I had new wedges in the bag that took some acclimating, and got off to about my worst start ever with a few bad breaks and mishits. But at +7 thru 5, I told myself that I was going to break 80. I hit a bomb and a mediocre wedge on 6 and made a 20 footer for birdie. Drove the green on 7 and made a 25 foot Eagle and turned in 40. On the back 9 I kept grinding and breathing and overcame a few bad shots to shoot 35 on the back.
Playing Cypress Point and Pebble Beach tomorrow. Will be fun day.
Fantastic! Youāre going at exactly the time I tell people to visit Monterey/the Central Coast. Summer doesnāt really start until right before Labor Day, and cruises right to Halloween, near Thanksgiving. Then the ārainsā startā¦ (Though LOL at what I thought was rain in CA, after a few hurricanes in Texas. Or March.)
The Cypress invite is amazing. I even liked detouring the (inter-hotel) shuttle to drive past it, when I had time.
Iāve been lucky to play cypress many times. But still very excited to get out there. Really excited for my friends to experience it for the first time.
Played really well today. My 2 ball round had 13 pars, 3 birdies, 14 bogies and 6 doubles. My 3 birdies were 2 chip ins and one long putt. My first chip in I hit a great drive and hit a 3/4 9i. It started too close to the pin and drew towards the lower tier but luckily it landed near the back and bounced onto the back fringe and stopped. I aimed left of the hole and my ball was rolling looking like it was missing then as it lost speed it turned right and in. My other chip in was a long chip to a back pin that just fell in the hole too. Finished shooting 82 and 81(par 70)
Shot a 39 in league last night, but it was sort of disappointing since I lost my match. Iām a 7 for 9 holes so thatās a great score for me, but my opponent shot 1 over as a 5ā¦which pretty much describes most of my matches this year. If anyone needs to shoot their PB, just message me.
On the plus side my iron game returned and if I could have putted like my opponent did, I could have shot 1 or 2 over myself.
I donāt often write about my roundsā¦butā¦two weeks ago everything was clickingā¦shot 81, 82 (season and close to career bests). Brought the handicap down to a 10ā¦.lowest ever.
Next three outings of nine holes has been 46, 46, 46ā¦.handicap back up to 11.8. My driver has abandoned me. I hate this damn gameā¦
She is a fickle mistress, no doubt about that
Cypress Point was as great as usual.
Heading out on a golf-free trip with my wife, so this morning was the last round for 6 days (probably the closest Iāll get to an āoff-seasonā). Shot a solid 76 which I was happy with, but I think I might have finished in a personal best time of around 1:45 for the 18.
(Cat in a suit, reading the newspaper) āI should join a country club.ā (/Catā¦)

I definitely need to get my stretching in before a round. Worked out hard Friday, cleaning out & moving stuff at my parents Saturday and I was really stiff and sore for my round Sunday morning. Shot 12 over on the front, but was loose by the back and shot 3 overā¦with a triple.
Finally, I know it was only round, hit 14 GIR! Problem was aerated greens. So I 3 putted 3 of those en-route to a season best 73! Driver SS avg 97mph, and 251 avg distance. I started the year at 210. I only hit 3 scoring wedges within 7ft, did convert 1 3ft for Bird. That was itā¦I had 9ā9iron or less in and pretty much dropped within 30 ft circle around the hole. So very happy.
Exactly one week after I shot 81 82 with 2 chip ins I again shot 81 and 82 with 2 chip ins. Must be something special about Wednesdays afternoons.
Shot my best round ever with the most birdies ever as well!
72 with 5 birdies, in a tournament and captain of the team. We won points and tied for low ball. What a great day!
Havenāt posted here in a while because I had been playing basically the same round on replay for a month+, shooting 78-82 or so, everything just okay, but nothing fantastic.
After watching the Ryder Cup, I decided to get out and play myself. Just took 6 clubs in my Sunday bag (driver, 3h, 7i, 9i, GW). Front side I was just messing around, but I decided to play straight golf on the back.
Bogey on the 10th, but from there it was 6 pars and 2 birdies to score a -1 35. It might have been the best driving 9 Iāve ever had as I hit 6/7 fairways and some were massive (for me). Putter was pretty good as well, 14 in total and plenty of good makes. Biggest putt was on 18. Good drive left me without the right club (remember I only had six), and I bailed out on the gap wedge left of the green. Meh bump and run left me a 12 footer up and down over a ridge for a par. Snuck in the side door and kept me at -1.
Course is going to be closed for aeration the next three days, but it was a good way to head into the break.
Holed two more chips today. Played at two different courses. The first one I was pin high to a raised green. First chip got me to the fringe then holed a dainty chip. Second at my home course after duffing the first chip about 2ft I holed a downhill breaking chip that probably would have run past a way. Luckily the pin was already out for a playing partner and it went in the middle. Very lucky. Takes me to 8 chip ins for the month (34 rounds)
My buddy and I won our Fall Shootout this weekend! We won back in 2018 and havenāt even qualified for one since then so this was sweet. The first 18 holes is a quota where you subtract 36 from your handicap and start at a negative total and earn points with Eagle= 8, birdie = 4, par = 2, and bogey = 1. The format seems to favor the high cappers since they need less points to get back to even and the 10 teams with highest score move to the Shootout.
I started at -22 and got to +1 and my partner started at -13 and got to +3 to give us +4 and 4th place. Unfortunately we were a couple of points from taking 3rd and cashing, but I bought the winning team (an amazing +11) in the parimutuel so we probably made more money lol. We used that and some more to buy ourselves in the Shootout. Iām not really a big gambler like some guys, but we didnāt get bid up super high like some teams so we took a shot and it paid off.
The Shootout is true alternate shot for 9 holes and the worst score team is knocked out each hole. If teams are tied for worst score then there is a chip off to see who moves on. The last time we won this, I was a stud, but this time I give more credit to my partner. He hit some really nice shots. I did hit great drives on 12, 14 and 18, but I thought I blew it for us early on 11. I thought I blew it again on 17 after hitting into the woods and he couldnāt quite get us out, but I hooked a GW out and around the trees onto the green leaving us a par putt. It wasnāt quite a Bubba Watson shot, but I give myself credit for that and 2 very nice flops shots on 12 and 16. Along the way we got lucky with teams butchering a hole here and there including a scratch golfer leaving his birdie putt a good 6 ft short on 18 and his partner (probably ~ 8 cap) missing the par to give us the win. I doubt we survive a chip off against them so Iāll take it.
