Our hard lockdown worked. We have had 21 cases total, all in people who have been told to isolate for 14 days. I played 36 holes on Thursday and in my 2nd round I hit a 6 iron into the right hand side bunker on the the par 3 13th. My bunker shot rolled onto the opposing fringe and I chipped about 1ft above the hole and it curled down into the cup. That green I always read the break and double it. Severe slope back to front.
Shot a nice smooth 81 this weekend. Definitely an easier game when you drive it 240-260 straight vs 210-230 crooked and your irons are also a club longer. Sadly I think my total length of putts made was like 40 feet (lots of lipouts), but was just so nice to hit the ball solid and straight.
You would think a 17 handicap shooting 81 would win some money in a tournament, but no. Along with some putting lessons I also need to learn to be much better at sandbagging.
Ha! Sorry to hear you didnāt win any money!
I hate sandbagging and think the only way to deal with it is to have leagues where people have to play a certain number of roundsā¦
Our club is starting to deal with it now that membership has grown. A lot of new members are winning everything lately, but I think that will decline as their league and tournament scores are posted for themā¦although we are still inconsistent with that.
I was just happy to hit the ball really well. I played the next day and hit the ball almost as well, but we had an odd tournament format with a partner and my partner had just about the worst round of his life. Iām sort of sad that the next 2 times Iāll play 18 are in scramble tournaments. I feel like I may finally break 80 again and I donāt want to waste this good swing on scrambles lol!
Yesā¦. Big issue with bernie sanders golf is that it never seems to be equitable
āTo each according to his need, from each according to his abilityā
You would have definitely taken my money as a 17 shooting an 81! Great round!
League tonight, format was modified Chapman (tee off, you hit your partners shot and they hit yours, then pick the best and scramble in). Itās an interesting format that can yield some low scores or some high ones if a partner is off.
My partner is an older guy but super steady golfer. We always had two looks, never put each other into big trouble. Made one sloppy bogey, but we each hit a big putt for birdie to finish the night with a 35.
Iām happy overall with my game. Had a really good lesson where the biggest thing we talked about was setup specifically posture. With working a desk job I was getting more into that C posture and it was affecting my game. Something to work really hard on the rest of the season as we enter the home stretch
Played my first āat homeā round since I shot a career low of 75⦠shot a very mediocre 82. Itās interesting how much different those two numbers feel now⦠an 82 is in line with my current handicap, but I donāt think itās representative of my skill level (it might be VERY representative of my mental game)
On the good side: Man, Iām hitting my irons well⦠I really like where my iron swing is at, and Iām excited about my new irons⦠I donāt think it will make a huge difference, but Iām excited to swing clubs build for me and swing them wellā¦
On the bad side: My mental game was terrible⦠I had 3 doubles and 2 of them were on par 5s. All were mental errors. Just complete lack of focus⦠Need to make sure Iām committing to the shots when I hit them. I wasnāt playing great, and didnāt stay focused when I should haveā¦
I also had back to back birdies, which was nice⦠the fact that it followed a double is just goofy icing.
Played 9 and lost whatever mojo I had last weekend. Started double, triple, double before settling down to pars and bogeys for a 10 over : (
Also had 5 lipouts to add salt to the wounds. I know even pros donāt make as many putts as we think, but I swear at least 3 were dead nuts center in the hole with half a revolution left to go.
I scrambled the last 6 holes to keep it from getting out of hand. I did have some really unlucky bounces the first few holes too, but mostly I just didnāt swing well. Back to the drawing board!
A consistently inconsistent net 75.
Burned edge with 4-5 putts for kick-ins, left 7 more 4ā-6ā from hole.
Sent 5 shots off back (aiming back distance) of green & dropped 5 shots short of green going for middle distance.
Good friends, good weather, mostly good fun.
Youāre confusing that with Republican Golf. This is a meritocracy except that I need me strokes to win the net prize.
It is near the end of winter here in Adelaide and with a rainy week the course has hit saturation point. So much mud and casual water. Places where you are pushing your buggy straight ahead only to find it sliding sideways. Carts have been banned till further notice. The greens are slow and the ball is not flying as far as usual. Teed of at 0810 in fog and hacked my way round losing 3 balls.
Last 2 rounds were charity scrambles. Wasnāt too keen to play 2 in a row, but one was free and had some nice swag and both were a lot fun. The food was also way too good and I need to go on a diet this week.
It is amazing how much longer I hit the ball at a course with wider fairways and hardly any OB . Need to find a way to get as freed up at my home course.
Bogeyed 1 in the dark after a bad mis-hit fairway bunker shot. Bogeyed 14 and 15 after pulled iron shots and bad chips. The rest of the round I played pretty solid, with 3 birdies including one on 18 to get back to even. I didnāt make a putt over 6 ft all day, but didnāt miss anything under 6 ft and had some really nice lag putts so it felt like a solid putting round.
Stumbled around yesterday in some serious heat/humidity, especially for Buffalo. Shot an 83 with a double and a triple. Used 3W off tee when I discovered on my 1st tee waggle, that me adjustable driver had loosened. Had my usual handful of Mishima, no big deal.
On the 14th, I hit a tee shot just offline (10yds or so) into a bunker followed by a thinned (hit lip of bunker) shot. This was compounded by subsequent very poor decision making, club selection and execution => triple bogey. It was 10 minutes of me not doing a damned thing right .
Oh, an hour and a half earlier, After throwing up my hands in disgust at a doinked shirt iron, I aggravated my inpinged shoulder. Fun times. But I did score a birdie and won three skins, soā¦
9 holes last night and shot 41ā¦with a triple on #8. The triple actually didnāt bother me that much (hooked tee shot OB), but I should have made par on 1 and 2 instead of bogey. Finally won a match and didnāt have to hear āthat was my best 9 holes this year!ā.
Added 4 grams of weight to the driver (swapped the 2 gram for a 6 gram) and was hitting the ball really well⦠some dumb me mental mistakes and terrible putting created a mediocre score⦠but Iām really happy where my game is outside my puttingā¦
My putting was atrocious today, but it was a complete lack of focus on my part⦠it didnāt help that I left my shots into the green 30+ feet awayā¦
Iām really happy with where my bad rounds are (mid 80s)⦠just need to post some more good rounds.
Wednesday night skins at the club. Around 30 guys divided into two flights. Iāve played the last couple of weeks, but didnāt get any skins (always blocked out on one or two holes).
Tonight I was playing okay, but nothing special, lots of pars and bogeys that werenāt going to take a skin. We do shotgun starts and I was off the third tonight so we came up to the second for our last hole. This is the #1 handicap hole at the course, 410yd that plays uphill with a big dogleg to the right and hazard all along the right to the hole (trees and a pond in front of the tee just to mess with your head). Tee box was set all the way on right, so a fade around a massive pine tree is the only drive that would leave a decent shot at the green. I never hit a fade, but I did tonight, cutting the corner and leaving about 160 in. Tugged a soft 8 a bit, hole high but about 20ā left for birdie. Bit longer putt than I usually do āheads upā, but I figured it was in or nothing for a skin so I stared right down the hole, stroked it, and just held the top lip for a true birdie.
Fortunately, no one else managed that, so I left $125 richer tonight.
What a crappy last month I have had with no rounds in the 80ās and some 100+ Teed off at 0756 today with thick fog and mushy underfoot due to 22m of rain on Wednesday. Rain the last few months has been Jun 158mm July 132mm and this month 67mm so far. Started dbl dbl then played the rest of the round in 10 over for an 84 with only 1 more dbl. 7 pars and the best part of my game was I hit ball first every shot. No fat shots when hitting off mud. I bladed a few chips but because I donāt hit my chips hard they stayed on the green just went a way past the hole. All my drives were in play although with the heavy air (moist fog) shots werenāt going very far. What a great round in challenging conditions.
Played the last 2 nights. Wednesday at my home course where i shot a very scrappy 94 with 5 3 putts, and last night at a course about 30 mins away where i shot by far and away my best score ever with a 82! An erratic front 9 of 46 gave no indication of a back 9 where i shot a +2 36 with consecutive birdies on 16 and 17, in fact a lost ball aside on the par 3 15th which i still only bogeyed meant it would have been 3 in a row.
I was just disappointed it was dark when i finished and i had to go home as i just wanted to play another 18ā¦its nice to finally know what proper golf feels like!
