42 / 42 with a less aggressive strategy and some growing pains… had 2 3 putts and 33 total putts (not bad for me)… Both three putts were well over 40 feet. One was just a wedge pulled left out of the rough that put me in a bad position on a hard green… the other was a wedge that was 5 feet short of the ledge that then rolled back to about 50 feet of straight uphill… biggest regret was trying to get it “close”. I should have played it WAY right and hoped to make whatever putt I had left… instead I tried to hit a “good” putt and left it 8 feet short.

I’ve complained about both of these greens before… they are two of the three hardest greens on the course.

My game is definitely coming back online, but my bogey from under 150 metrics is freaking AWFUL.

Got out early this morning for a quick (1:07) 9 before work. 36. 9 straight pars. I don’t think I’ve ever done that in my life. It feels weird. Like I played good, but I didn’t play good enough to make birdies. If there’s a low point it was (surprisingly) my proximity to hole with my irons. I’ve been putting myself in really good position to have good looks at birdies all year. Today it was sort of lag putt city. I converted them, so that’s a win for me because it was a struggle a couple weeks ago, so the practice is paying off there.
7/9 greens. 2/2 up and downs. 16 putts (eeeesh).
League tomorrow night and I’m only giving up 6 shots to my opponent, so :crossed_fingers:t3:

Good 9 today…5 over. Good driving, decent putting, 4 hybrid was working well. Still struggling to hold greens with the Snell “Get Sum” balls. MTB Blacks arrived today and will be looking forward to seeing if they help.

Tuesday night league I found all sorts of trouble and shot a 47, the worst round I’ve had on the back this year. Last night on Wednesday league I played the same 9 and shot a 38, the best round I’ve had on the back this year. Go figure!

Best round so far. Didn’t bother to post them, early season, really poor rounds that sent my hdcp to 24 from 20. Typical face control & strike issues on 13 & 14 and a 3 chip after a short drive on 15.

Shot a one under, 35 last night. To get me there I topped a driver, hit a 3 foot birdie putt 8 feet past, had an eagle putt defy all the laws of gravity to somehow not drop, and almost completely missed the ball with a wedge off the tee on a par 3.
Golf is weird.

Another practice round today. it was a last minute arrangement, so I really didn’t have my game face on; a bit discombobulated the first few holes. Driving and iron play started pretty dodgy but significantly improved once I settled into a set-up and swing “thing”.

Putting was terrible. I toyed around on front nine with my Bullseye. Distance control was okay, but I just couldn’t see the line. On back nine, I used my Acushnet Tartan. Once I got used to the shorter, lighter putter… same results. Just not focused.

Around-the-green chipping was a f’ing disaster. In general, I was further from hole AFTER my chip than before. Just an absolute chipping brain freeze.

Fortunately, I have a “not a big deal” scramble on Monday, so that will be a good opportunity to work on a few above items. Is this a great game, or what?

Made my second eagle of 2021 yesterday, it was on the par 5 16th at The Dye at Barefoot Resort. It’s a 526 yard hole, that was playing 515. I hit a great drive and had 241 left to the flag, which is about the maximum for my 3 wood. The 3 wood shot came off perfectly and right at the flag! The ball landed 10 yards short and bounced on to the fringe, leaving about 20 feet for eagle. I hit a great putt and it dropped in on the 2nd to last roll.

This was huge for me because it means my speed training is paying off! It’s been a few years since I’ve made an eagle on a par 5.

Last Sunday best round for 2 years. Today worst round for 5 years. What a deviation. 5x8s and a 9. Pulled, topped and/or duck hooked all but 1 drive. Hybrids utter dogsh|t. Hit 2x tops that only went 5-10yds! Golf is wonderful and infuriating within the space of a week!

I got up at 2:30am and made the trek down to Bethpage to play the black course for the first time. It took 4 hours to drive down and 4 hours to drive half way home. Haha traffic was crazy, I didn’t have time to stay so I just dealt with it.

We played the back tees and I didn’t know what to expect other than what I have seen on tiger woods video games. Bombing it over the corner on the first hole isn’t actually realistic haha. I have heard that it’s quite the test and it’s true. Admittedly there were a few holes where the tees could have gone back one more set. I guess 485 is long enough for a par 4 for mere mortals. Number 8 played 192. I carry my drive 250 pretty much, and had a LOT of long irons in. The course is fair though it’s all right in front of you with few penalty areas in play. Pristine condition.

I was mostly intrigued by the size of the bunkers and the rough was just so thick. It really is a brutal course. Not as penal as I thought it wears going to be besides the rough being thick. 15 was probably my favorite hole. Standing on the tee and seeing that elevated green is extremely intimidating and a long way away. Tee shot on 18 i have a video I guess we can’t post, just don’t go left or right and you’ll be fine! I had the time of my life though. I shot an 89, (8.4 differential I’m a 7) I hope to go down one more time this year. We will see!

Got in an early round today at one of my favorite courses here in the area, Shadow Ridge (where James Sieckmann teaches out of). I’ve played here probably 15-20 times over the last few years and I’ve broken 75 twice. It’s not necessarily an overly difficult course, but you do need to be more accurate here than I worry about at other courses. There’s just always been something about this course that got the better of me. It’s probably because the layout, though not long, doesn’t lend itself to being overpowered off the tee.
Today I got it back with my best round there ever. I made 8 birdies, two bogeys, and 8 pars for a 66.
My putter was on fire. I wasn’t necessarily throwing darts. I hit my irons good, not great. But I made probably 125+ feet of putts. That may be fairly conservative. It was an all-time good putting day for me and really, really encouraging to see because I’ve been working SO hard on my putting the last couple years. I finally feel like I’ve got the right putter and a stroke that works.

Played my first round on a regular (non par 3) course yesterday. I played at Fairway Village, a 9-hole course inside a 55+ retirement community here in town. I played 18 with someone I met on a par-3 course a couple weeks back.

It went pretty well. The holes are a bit shorter compared to other courses, which is why I think my coach suggested it (275-400 yard par 4s).

I hit a couple GIR despite not using my driver. I haven’t worked with my coach on it yet and I’ve struggled to figure it out on my own. So, I mostly stuck to my 5i/6i, which worked well enough. I did try using my 4h, but since I just bought that and haven’t learned to use it that well, it led to my most erratic shots.

(On the plus side, I have another lesson tomorrow which is when I think we’ll work on my hybrid. I’m hoping there will be some carry over to my other clubs as well (5i/6i and wood/driver?)).

The highlight of the day was the last hole (273 yards) when I hit an okay tee shot with my 6i (160 yards per Shot Scope) and a 9i that landed on the green. That setup an approx. 8 foot putt for birdie, which I sunk. My first birdie on a regular course!

My buddie followed up with a slightly longer birdie putt of his own, which was an awesome way to cap off the round.

I was hooked on the game already, but playing on a full course hooked me even more. I was tempted to play another 18 after the round was over.

Played a team match play tournament this weekend. Five 9 hole matches over 2 days. Sort of mixed feelings about it. We lost our first match, tied our 2nd and then won the next 3 to finish 2nd in our flight (good feelings). I only played well in the 3rd match, but my running hot & cold did help to some extent.

In the 1st and 4th matches we were up against notoriously slow teams and we were out on the course way too long. I regret not trying harder to get them moving. It’s a bad feeling knowing your group is not keeping up.

Congrats on the first full round! Probably smart to take things one step at a time with the clubs rather than getting frustrated with poor shots. Keep up with the lessons and those birdies will come plenty often.

Completed 1st Invitational of the year - actually it was a charity scramble, but I was asked to play…

Long game needs smoothed out, but very happy with short game.

Our foursome, septuagenarians all, finished at a very respectable -7. Winning score was -12. Our mantra was “we’re never going to win this, but we’re at least respectable “:joy:

Made it up to the range today… it was mats only and hot, so I moved into the simulator… i haven’t been using the simulator much sense the weather got nice, and it was a nice little refresh to see my numbers for path and such…

Did my speed drills on the putting green and then hit drivers (I can’t swing full driver in my bay)…

It wasn’t a round, but man… i feel like my swing is back online. I feel like I’m generating easy power without swing hard and just feel in control of my swing for the first time in a long time.

I’m hoping to qualify for our presidents cup this week, so will have some actual rounds soon. We will see if the feeling lasts.

Got a text from my pro that my new irons came in yesterday, and I decided to throw them in the bag for league last night. Oh man when I actually had the chance to hit them it was a thing of beauty.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance often because the rough on our course is incredibly penal right now. I had a few lies just off the fairway last night that I’m pretty sure defy the laws of physics/nature. It was one of my better driving rounds this season, but anything in the rough is pretty much an auto double bogey. Made some solid pars along the way, really excited I think I’m almost there.

Hit 10 greens and shot 80!
Tournament day; short game is a Joke and not a funny one to me.
Have to review technique, equipment and mind.
Can’t miss the green 5 times under 50 yards☹️

Not long! Rain started pouring on the 11th hole and I didn’t have rain gloves…

Hit the ball decently on the front but still made some large mental errors (mostly focus)

Played last evening. I have been really working on a fairway finder with my driver and the Mental Game Training from Golf State of Mind. I went into the round with the mindset to control the controllables and enjoy the round and company.

Got off to a hot start with a birdie. Went out in 36 (E) with two birdies and 2 bogeys. Things feeling good. Birdied the 11th. Still feeling good. Had so good up and downs and two putts for par along with a few ok birdie looks.

Stepped to the 18th tee 1 under with a chance to break par for my first time. I was fully aware of where I stood so trying to pretend like I wasn’t would not have been genuine. But I followed my mental process like I had been all day. Felt calm and confident as I addressed the ball. Put a good swing on it. Watched it fade slightly instead of draw. Watched it land in grass. Watched it take a hard bounce right towards a creek. Accepted whatever the outcome came to be.

Turns out it trickled into the creek. I accepted that, no problem. Took my drop and had a shot at the green over some short trees. Took less club to ensure I went over the trees and pured it. Landed on the green and skipped off the back in a gnarly thick rough lie. Chipped it to 15 feet and just burned the edge. Double on 18 for a 1 over.

Can’t say I’m thrilled I didn’t break the even par goal for the first time, but in all honesty, I played a great round of golf. The tee shot that ended up in the creek felt just as good as any other shot throughout the day. I think I heeled it slightly resulting in the fade vs draw but I followed my shot process and that’s what I can control.

I thoroughly enjoyed the round and I’m looking forward to getting back out there.

SG data from last night in Shot Scope.
