What would you serve at the Masters Dinner?

Shout out to @mpatrickriley for making me think of this on Twitter…

In case you want an overview…

I like to eat well, but some of my best meals have been simple and well prepared… steak and potatoes done correctly is a tough meal to beat, and you know Augusta would do a good job with that (and source good beef!)

I think having them try to stretch their skill set would blow up… I love GOOD BBQ, but I don’t think Augusta has a pitmaster… same with Asian food, I just don’t think they have the skillset to do it well.

Honestly, I think something simple like Fried Chicken would be fun, as it can be done really well and be exceptional and isn’t something I order often (also, it’s the south… so they better know how to fry a chicken!)…

Honestly, I think I’d go Caesar Salad, Fried Chicken or Steak, Mashed Potatoes, Asparagus, Biscuits and then something fun for dessert (Key Lime Pie and Buttermilk Pie off the top of my head… traditional southern dishes that can be done well). I’d love to work with a chef who wanted to have fun and put their own twists on the meals.

Seems like it would be a fun thing to do! I just hope someone is on hand to cut DJs food for him, as I’m not sure he should be holding sharp objects before a major tournament (I’m kidding, MPR… mostly). Also, if you like food and cooking, check out Kenji Lopez Alt. His book is excellent.

I think I’d go shrimp and grits, Carolina style ribs, biscuits, summer squash casserole, and finish up with peach cobbler and Hummingbird cake.

Also a fan of Kenji, been reading him since his early days on Serious Eats

I had plans to take the wife to California for our ten year wedding anniversary (10/16/10 wedding date)… we were going to eat at his restaurant… I’m still mad.

He’s actually in a fathers group with a guy I went to college with.

I feel like they would bring in whoever is needed to make the dinner the Champion wants.

I’d go with North Carolina pulled pork, Memphis Ribs and Texas Brisket with cornbread, baked beans and greens with peach cobbler for dessert.

Whatever I chose would have beer pairings. Banana pudding dessert.

I don’t think they do, but who knows… I’m sure they could pull in a decent pit master if they wanted to.

I’ve recently been eating much better bbq (Kansas City and dallas) and my expectations for bbq have changed significantly… I’d rather not pick something I don’t think they can knock out of the park.

Interesting, I don’t drink anymore but loved bourbon… my go to was high proof with a big rock of ice… stagg was a personal favorite… never thought or heard of people adding coconut water.

I have about one glass of wine every 3-4 weeks. That’s generally the extent of my drinking, but my wife and I went out for our anniversary a couple weeks ago (safely!) and I had a wagyu ribeye and told the waiter to bring me the drink that goes best and he brought me Buffalo Trace and coconut water and it was unreal.

Yeah, buffalo trace is good stuff and not super hard to find… old forester signature and four roses single barrel were my default “house” bourbons…

Stagg is up there with pappy van winkle on things that are hard to find… stagg is much better, though… it usually comes in at 120 proof, so I preferred it with some water…

Anyways… I enjoyed the wagyu ive had, but don’t seek it out… masters dinner would be a good place for it! Maybe make some competitors logy!

Now I want to change my steak selection to bison ribeye… really, I’d go reindeer if I could, but would probably get negative publicity.
