I’ve only had time to play 2 rounds this year, but used an Oncore Elixr. It was about $20/box on sale and at that price it’s impressive. It’s softer than I’d like, but doesn’t balloon as easily as I would have expected. It may be slightly shorter off the tee than a ProV1X or Maxfli TourX, but also seems slightly longer off the irons. As good as anything else for me around the greens.
Same here.
The problem in the last few years with reduced rounds played ( pandemics and time+ other commitment). I ended up with quite a few boxes of new golf balls sitting in the closet.
On top of this, I don’t lose a lot of golf balls . Most have to be retired after a few rounds from being used with cosmetic imperfections.
With arthritis creeping up in the fingers and everywhere, an old golfer will seek softer compression golf balls, as I’m gradually moving toward that direction.
My favorite type of golf balls when I was younger was something with larger dimples to cut through the air and wind, 100 compression. The softer and smaller dimple pattern to promote lift kind, did not suit my game because they ballooned up and lost distance.
I play the Callaway ERC mostly and ProV1 when I get them as a gift.
MaxFli Tour. 2021 version. I played them all last season. They fly great off the driver and have a good spin on the greens. I tend to spin ProV1 (or 1x) way too much, these just hit and stop on a dime. Ballflight I great. Distance is the same for me as any other high end ball. The only time that I don’t love them is in Highwind conditions. I did a ball fitting on ballnamics website, it told me to use the Bridgestone Tour B X for best wind performance. I plan on buying a dozen of those and using them when it is very windy.
An update here. I have locked in on the Callaway Supersoft (2023 version which has the wider alignment line). While maybe not perfect in anything, it seems to give the best overall performance for my game with the ever slowing swing speed (79-83) Lower spin off the driver has picked up about 10-15 yards ( as long as I have proper trajectory) and a bit more distance off the irons has allowed 1-2 clubs less on approach, which to some degree overcomes the spin issue. I hit the ball super straight so side spin, or lack thereto, is not an issue. In other words, old man golf:190-210 with a driver and anything more than 150, a hybrid. I play 5500 yard tees, +/- .
