I never thought much about the putting green and short game areas until I haven’t been able to use them during COVID. I really do miss them and will be taking full advantage once they reopen.
Driving range, putting green, chipping green. I can get everything I need to get done with just that. Everything else is nice, but you’re paying for that additional stuff in some manner.
Water and a marshall that actually does their job.
shocked there hasn’t been a comment about a well stocked beverage cart!
Could not agree more my friend!
For courses with a driving range:
I do not understand how hard it can be to drop 5 - 10 nets at a variety of distances between 50 - 100 yds
It’s not the nets that are hard, it’s getting the balls from them after that would be difficult. After spending a decent number of hours behind the wheel of a range picker as a teen, I can say anything that prevented me from just driving the straight lines back and forth was a major annoyance at best or dangerous at worst (since people would be hitting and those types of things would require getting out of the cart cage).
“Comfort” facilities for the ladies.
My wife and I always keep well hydrated out on the course, and it always annoys her when I can just run over to the side to … uhhh … to see the trees and bushes, ya know?
Pre-covid days, Tobacco Road had a huge barrel of fresh apples stationed at one of the tee boxes on the back nine.
Always thought it was a thoughtful gesture in keeping with the spirit of the course.
Driving range. If the course doesn’t have a range where I can hit a warm up bucket, I’m driving away immediately. It’s a non-negotiable in my rickety old age.
Whether they have a driving range or not, I think all courses should have some basic netted hitting bays near the first tee exclusively for the on-deck group waiting to tee off. All I really want is like ten warm-up shots and then get out there.
There are some really great courses in Scotland and Ireland that have nothing more than a couple of bays with nets. I’m not spring chicken myself, but I can find a way to loosen up the old bones. But yeah, I’m spoiled, my club has balls on the range all the time, I can hit 5 or 50 before I play, and I almost always do a warm up.
What a nice touch - I usually bring an apple on the course if I’m playing in the afternoon
Sunscreen in the locker rooms. I always forget to put it on at home.
To make @openfacelefty happy, I need a well stocked beverage cart. I may or may not need it, but if I am having “one of those days” I’ll need all of the things. The drinking on the course starts, the cursing starts, the pouting starts, then when I see the well stocked beverage cart and usually the very pretty girl driving it, all things seem to be good again, and the world is back on its proper axis.
I just look forward to the day again when ball washers are freely available on golf courses.
That’s why I keep a golf umbrella in my bag, rain or shine, it makes a useful screen!
Ball washers and GPS on the carts
Ball washers at par 3’s (for the walkers)
Hole layout maps, especially on those with blind landing areas (nothing worse than hitting a great shot directly into a hidden bunker or hazard)
GPS on carts, and/or distances on every sprinkler head + poles or markers showing 100/150/200
Reflectors on flagpoles for lasers
Driving range, putting green, and snack place. I don’t care about anything else tbh.
I am happy with what I already have. Taps and drinking fountains, 14 ball washers and sunscreen in the locker room(or at least we did pre covid)
