Pre-covid days, Tobacco Road had a huge barrel of fresh apples stationed at one of the tee boxes on the back nine.
Always thought it was a thoughtful gesture in keeping with the spirit of the course.

Driving range. If the course doesnāt have a range where I can hit a warm up bucket, Iām driving away immediately. Itās a non-negotiable in my rickety old age.
Whether they have a driving range or not, I think all courses should have some basic netted hitting bays near the first tee exclusively for the on-deck group waiting to tee off. All I really want is like ten warm-up shots and then get out there.
There are some really great courses in Scotland and Ireland that have nothing more than a couple of bays with nets. Iām not spring chicken myself, but I can find a way to loosen up the old bones. But yeah, Iām spoiled, my club has balls on the range all the time, I can hit 5 or 50 before I play, and I almost always do a warm up.
What a nice touch - I usually bring an apple on the course if Iām playing in the afternoon
Sunscreen in the locker rooms. I always forget to put it on at home.
To make @openfacelefty happy, I need a well stocked beverage cart. I may or may not need it, but if I am having āone of those daysā Iāll need all of the things. The drinking on the course starts, the cursing starts, the pouting starts, then when I see the well stocked beverage cart and usually the very pretty girl driving it, all things seem to be good again, and the world is back on its proper axis.
I just look forward to the day again when ball washers are freely available on golf courses.
Thatās why I keep a golf umbrella in my bag, rain or shine, it makes a useful screen!
Ball washers and GPS on the carts
Ball washers at par 3ās (for the walkers)
Hole layout maps, especially on those with blind landing areas (nothing worse than hitting a great shot directly into a hidden bunker or hazard)
GPS on carts, and/or distances on every sprinkler head + poles or markers showing 100/150/200
Reflectors on flagpoles for lasers
Driving range, putting green, and snack place. I donāt care about anything else tbh.
I am happy with what I already have. Taps and drinking fountains, 14 ball washers and sunscreen in the locker room(or at least we did pre covid)
I couldnāt agree more with this! It makes me so happy when Iām at a course that has distances on the sprinkler heads. Seems like a pretty easy and inexpensive solution for the golf courses to manage. Not sure why they havenāt all done this by now.
I think the mew GPS systems on golf carts at public and resort courses are great for distances and recommendations on shots. They can really help with pace of play. And it adds to enjoyment when you donāt hit into hidden trouble.
1/4 lb all beef hot dogs on an old janky roller cooker. Thatās the ticket.
Detailed (not the ācartoonā kind) yardage book for sale?
I would buy these at pretty much every course I visit just as souvenirs if they had them.
GPS on the cart would be heavenly!
Most courses invest in cart gps to enforce 1) pace of play (great) and 2) no-cart areas, sometimes not so great; if not set up correctly they can shut cart down even if youāre on the cart path! Gets annoying.
A further caution, Iāve learned to verify yardages bc sometimes the cart gps is incorrect (again possibly mapping issue). Ex: cart gps said 113 to center, watched my shot fly over pin and off back. Went back to my yb, actual was 90.
I played a quick 9 holes yesterday and they had a park bench at hole #7, I think it is for people waiting as golfers are constantly hitting into the water on the right and trees on left
