Tiger: Let's talk Tiger!

I’m not a huge Tiger fan. I respect him, and am awed at how much effort he put into his golf game… I was talking to non-golf buddies about him, and trying to capture how GREAT he was… the stat that blew my mind is: 142 cuts made in a row.

To me, that’s one of his more impressive feats. Golf is a fickle sport, and it’s easy to have a bad round because you are just a little bit off… He took his worst playing days and still managed to outlast a field of talented golfers… it’s insane.

IMO the undisputed greatest golfer of all time considering the level of competition and overall body of work.

I pray we haven’t seen the last of his playing days.

I think he’s done, but who knows… I thought his most recent back surgery was the end… now he has the car crash…

I’d love to see him compete again, but just hope he gets back to healthy.

A decade as the number 1 player in the world.

No one will come close to touching this ever again.

I think thats him done for Majors but i’d love to see him come back fit enough to win 1 more tournament so that he goes clear of Sam Snead as the player with the most wins.

Whatever people think of him (and i’m a huge fan) you only have to look at the interest he generates when playing to see that his loss would be to the detriment of the game!

Tiger is the reason Kevin Kisner can say there’s a lot of money to be made in finishing 20th every week.

I’m a huge huge fan of on course Tiger Woods. His personal life has many areas I don’t personally approve of, but I’m also not an almost billionaire with sky high expectations from the world, so I try not to judge. I was very glad to hear no substances caused this crash, but it’s a tragedy nonetheless. I’m glad his kids still have a dad. That’s what’s important.

Selfishly I want him to come back and win more, but his body has been through hell, so no one could blame him for hanging it up. I imagine he’ll do everything he can to get back to competition being who he is.

his stat of consecutive strokes gained rounds is ridiculous

The dude had an undeniable toughness. His grit and overall determination will get him back to playing if it is physically possible. Two things going in here though: 1) not a fully healed back surgery and with those impacts, I’d be surprised if everything stayed stable. 2) his leg injury is worse than the one by Alex Smith. Of course the best doctor’s were working on it and as long as there is no infection and the blood continues to flow properly he should be able to do mostly everything again in that leg. It will definitely be a long road to recovery. I think it’s probably best that it was his trail leg. Here’s to hoping he recovers and keeps his leg, the next 6-8 weeks are crucial.

This Tiger stat blew me away:

Can’t disagree with anything already said here. I was always impressed with how Tiger could shoot a decent score even though he clearly didn’t have his best stuff. Other players would have driven it like him and shot 74, but he’d somehow grind out 69. He just refused to make bogeys and miss cuts.

This stat is unreal. Just stole it to share with all my golfing friends

While the injuries to his leg are horrible and will take some time to recover from, I don’t think any of them will impact his ability to return to the golf course. His back is still the physical issue. I mostly wonder what this will do to his desire to play. It’s likely going to be at least a year before he can even take a full swing.
I hope he takes that year to heal everything as well as can be done, maybe another year to build a “senior” swing that eases some of the strain on his body, then has the drive to come out and see what he can do. I think a 50 year old Tiger can still win at Augusta if he’s in the right place physically and mentally.
