My joke is that it’s not a stamp, it’s a command.
I never buy used or refurbished. I often stock up at end of year when prices decrease or when new year models are released especially when changes are minor. Occasionally buy Pro-V1 practice dozens.
That is reassuring! Might start getting used balls, I lose so many that mine don’t even get scuffed.
I like new shiny stuff so I wait until I can get Srixon Z star XV At 20 a dozen which is right around where good used balls come in. I like to know there is nothing changing in my game when I play. If I find balls on the course I save in a bag and give to friends to use.
The consistency of used balls scares the crap out of me. You’re gambling on how long they were waterlogged or kept in a hot trunk, etc. I know balls are expensive, but at least you know the quality control on them are great.
What is everyone’s view on how long you use a golf ball? I find it rewarding to play with the same ball the whole round assuming i don’t knock one into a lake or it gets raked a long a cart path. If is a ball is “used” from a previous round, do you use it again? I tend to start with a new one and have a previously used ball as a provisional
I get that it’s a mental hurdle, but I do really think it is mental. Not just Jon’s testing referenced above, but every test that anyone has done on the subject showed the used balls to perform just as well as the new ones. All that said, with so much of the game being mental, it’s completely valid to spend the couple extra bucks for peace of mind.
As long as I can. I don’t lose a lot of balls on the courses I play and will often play the whole round with one ball. After I’m done, I wipe it down and back into the ball pocket it goes (I have one pocket for the gamers and then a side pocket for ones I find). Next round, I pull out a ball and play, don’t care if it’s “new new” or one I used previously.
Would you rather play used ProV1s or a less expensive new ball?
Same here, except the ball I’m currently gaming goes into a different pocket with my glove and tees. I think I’m on round four or five with the current Bridgestone now.
I play Srixon soft feels. I’ve not really ever considered used balls, but don’t see much difference in the less expensive ones I’ve used (ie…Srixon) vs Pro V (on the scorecard)…I just want to hit the same type of ball every time I play (so I usually give the ones I find to whomever I’m playing with…or just leave them on the ground).
Used Pro V’s for sure. Less expensive balls tend to over-compress for me in addition to spinning less around the greens. I see no difference in performance between new and used balls. Ive been playing used Srixon Z-stars this year and couldn’t be happier.
I’ve tried refurbished balls a couple times from Rock Bottom Golf. Last time I got Pro Vs and they performed well for me at a fraction of the cost.
Just recently got 3 dozen Bridgestone. They look great condition, haven’t hit them yet.
