Traeger is owned by private equity and manufactured in China. Don’t own one so not going to go overboard here, but know some people with some very strong opinions on that product.

If y’all like em though, have at em.

Using a Trager (or any pellet grill) seems like cheating. It’s like the RONCO rotisserie chicken cooker - set it an forget it.

I like the experience of using my barrel smoker and having to tend to it throughout the day rather than sitting on my couch and using my phone to cook.

thanks for the info!

Haha, I’m all for managing a fire for an entire day, but I don’t have the time and don’t have access to decent bbq is Louisville…

Pellet grill is definitely cheating but that doesn’t mean it isn’t delicious!

Honestly, I’ve gotten pretty good results with sous vide and finishing on the grill.

Don’t disagree that it would be delicious!

Part of my point of view is that I don’t want to spend for one, so I have to manufacture a reason I don’t like them

Haha, I’m with you… I’m just worried I won’t use it enough… my charcoal grill sits quietly unused as I don’t like firing it up for just the family…

That’s why I want to win one!

I’d love to go the offset route, but I don’t have the luxury of time to tend to a fire all day. Set it and forget cooks darn fine meat.

I agree it’s tough. I did ribs a few weeks ago on my new offset and it was great - 3 hours of tending to it, then wrapped/finished on the grill for 3 hours.

Thinking of doing a pork shoulder this weekend which will be a long day but worth it.

Probably take a few more cooks to really get the hang of temperature control on it. Hopefully after that it’ll be a little bit less hands on.

Did a pork shoulder on the smoker yesterday - it was a LONG day.

Up before 5, meat on the smoker at 6. Wrapped and transferred it to the grill at 4, off at 5 and rested for an hour before devouring it.

Great day to sit outside and watch football while tending to the smoker.

Love it!! I threw on a rack of beef ribs before I headed to the course on Saturday. Hadn’t had a chance to smoke anything in a while. Nothing better than a beef rib, IMO. Maybe prime rib.

That’s fit for Fred Flintstone!

Where do you source your meat for beef ribs?

I’ve had mixed success, even ordering directly from bison and beef farms… I usually request plated beef ribs.

I’m pretty lucky in Nebraska to be surrounded by really great beef. I can drive in any direction and run into a quality meat market. My dad also owns a steakhouse and has a great relationship of over 40 years with one of the best meat guys in the area. That’s where I generally go to get all my meat. The online places like Snake River Farms are WAY overpriced and I can even get wagyu from my guy at well below market.

I did a snake river piece like 8 years ago… wagyu ribeye cap 22 oz for $225.

It was like meat butter, in the best possible way… we actually got their ribeyes from a Grocery store in Idaho over the summer ($40 a lbs vs $30 a lbs for regular beef) and they were really, really good. It helped that I used msg salt!

Nebraska meat is definitely good. One of the best steaks I had was from a farm in Nebraska. That one is a long story!

Look @Sub70_Jay again with the upcoming giveaways.
