For anyone who’s season is still continuing, try playing a round with only six clubs in the bag and then post here with how it went:
I played yesterday with six clubs from the uppermost tees at the club (making it around 5500 yards). I went 7w, 6i, 8i, PW, SW, and putter. Shot 84 (net 81 for my handicap at those tees), so nothing fantastic, but was a lot of fun. Biggest challenge with the gap between my PW and SW as well as not having my LW around the greens.
I’ll be playing plenty more rounds this way, swapping the clubs around a bit.

I’ve been meaning to do this with 5 clubs, but never actually followed through. Perhaps in 2021!

Hmm, I’m thinking this through on what clubs I’d bring and what tees I’d play…
My regular tees, I’d probably go driver, 6i, 9i, 50, 58 and putter…

I would think I would be hitting many shots 10-20 yards short of the green (NGIR) and trying to get up and down

I love this idea. My brother-in-law and I wanted to get out on a local par 3 course and do a straight one club challenge. I’d probably use a 9 iron on that course.
For a full size course I’d have to go Driver, Hybrid, 7I, PW, SW, Putter

I’ve done 7 clubs and honestly didn’t see a huge drop off in my performance and my home course. My setup was Driver, 3h, 5i, 7i, 9i, SW and putter.
Biggest challenge is the gap between 9 iron and SW. I’ve been meaning to try it again and take out the 5 iron and put in my Gap wedge.
I’ve done the “3 clubs + putter” challenge a couple of times at my club. I took 3W, 7i, PW. Feels more free as you don’t get hung up on club choice, just gotta go with it. Should do it more often as it forces you to get creative.
I like the idea of the 1 club challenge on the par 3 course. Might try that this Christmas break

We do a 2 clubs + putter, 3 clubs + putter or any 3 clubs events during the season and I really enjoy those. It’s usually pretty easy to pick a club and it can really force you to think about the shot and commit to it. I seem to do well with 3 clubs + putter (and then wonder why I carry 14), but struggle with the 2 clubs + putter.
