This is the absolute nittiest post I will ever make… I don’t care though, still going to make it.
I have been involved in numerous matches where there has been shoddy scorekeeping which leads to long, awkward explanations/investigations in the middle of the match. I almost always insist on keeping the card because of these experiences.
My method:
- Fill out the columns as such, Team A members, +/- column that indicates whether a hole was won, Team B members
- CLEARLY dot the cards, announce what holes everyone is stroking on, announce again when you come to the hole, announce at the turn, keep reminding your drunk partner about where the strokes are
- Only write down gross scores, the dot is there to help you do math
- if there is a press, draw a bold line between the old hole and the beginning of the new set of holes to indicate
I think the most critical piece of this is NOT writing down net scores (too dirty IMO, clogs up card) and always keep a really clean “+/-/0” column. Instead of keeping a ledger of where every bet is, make it clear who won each hole.
So there you go, there is my anal retentive post on how to score a four ball match.
