Periodic Reminder to Check Your Impact Location

So I’ve been making some subtle tweaks to my stock swing and found something I’m happy with. It’s compact, repeatable, generates decent power, and is easy on my body. One problem is that a sneaky little slice starting sneaking in out on the course and (in my best Judge Smails voice)


Last night, I got out the impact tape (I’m out of foot powder spray), made some swings in the net and discovered I was consistently hitting in on the heel. This was true up and down the bag. I didn’t want to abandoned the swing, so I went with the simple solution and set up a bit out towards the toe, and viola I was consistently in the sweet spot. Committed to doing it out on the course today and had an easy, solid ball-striking round.
Couple of things I take away from this. First, check your impact location and do it often. Face to path and everything certainly matters, but the best results are always going to come from the sweet spot (search for it on your preferred podcast service). Second, if there’s a simple solution to centering the strike more often, don’t be afraid to try it just because it’s not conventional. Zach Johnson made a hell of a career setting up off the toe:
