Not your norm golfing bucket list

I’ve recently moved to Florida from the UK and currently spoilt with the array of courses in my area (Lakeland)…

It got me to thinking as I plan to travel all over; what are the “must play” courses in the USA or hidden gems?

Caveat: Ignore the obvious courses (Pebble Beach), any private courses and any courses that would break the bank, this is purely a list for Joe Public.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated

Some good ideas on this list:

Golf Advisor also puts out lists of top value courses by regions. They’re based on user reviews, so not always the best gauge, but some good info. Besides that, can always just ask around here and other forums based on what region you’re going to and you’ll get good recommendations I’m sure. Tons of examples in the hidden gems thread. My personal one in there for Los Angeles was Roosevelt Golf Course inside Griffith Park.

Since you are in Florida, I’d look at the Robert Trent Jones trail in Alabama.

I’ve heard it’s some good golf.

If you are planning trips to any region of the country, just ask! I have a favorite course in Idaho, but I’m assuming you aren’t headed that way right now.

If you make it to Kentucky, I’m happy to host a round.

I did the RTJ Golf Trail in college, it’s a lot of fun!
