I doubt I’ll ever have a 3-4 iron ever again. I have hybrids I can put in the bag when I need them, but I’ve discovered at my current course, the 7 wood is more versatile.

I love the ability of the hybrid to launch higher. With the irons, especially down in the 3-4 range the launch is low. I can’t think of many times I want to launch the ball lower, unless I’m under some low lying branches.

I’m trying it, can’t hit a 3 wood off the fairway…just got a 4 and a 5 hybrid, waiting for the weather to break to try them! Won’t really know till next year, about a week left to play up here.

Is the 4 hybrid a replacement for a 3 wood?
My nickname used to be ‘Ironman’ because my 4i was my go-to. Got a 4h and meh, couldn’t tell much difference. Then a friend taught me the Tree-duckin’ worm-scarein’ 120yard 4h punch. 4h in the bag since.

Realizing I’m late to this topic. I’ve been using a Taylormade 3H (19 degree) Rescue…it’s got to be at least 10-15 years old. How much would you all say technology has changed over the last 10 or even 5 years in hybrids? I’m thinking I’m due (or overdue) to replace it…and maybe even throw in a 24 degree as well.
I still hit it well…but is it time for some new technology?
Not exactly, have been looking for a 3 hybrid, as a beginner and senior woman, I have quite a time getting any distance on the fairway! Besides the mis-hit shots, have a ways to go on getting more yardage on 2nd and 3rd shots on the fairway.

The ball doesn’t care how old whatever just hit it. I’m still playing TM Burner 3W, couldn’t pry it outta my bag.
Sure, try stuff. If it beats your old beater, consider (bag Darwinism).

Yeah - I went ahead and upgraded from my Taylormade Rescue 3 hybrid <19 degrees> (at least 15 years old) to a Big Bertha 4 hybrid <21 degrees> (2019 version). Apparently the ball cared about the newer technology, because I carried it 18-20 yards further 
…or at least the “newer” tech made my mind swing better. Took it out today and had a great round.

With my bag of assorted (and some vintage) clubs, I’m loving the hybrids I have, the Adams 6 hybrid and the 4 hybrid more recently Just got my mystery 15 degree hybrid (says win-win on the sole) and have to see if the driving range open at all now with the cold. Don’t really know why but they’re so much easier to hit than fairway woods!
I have a very difficult time finding a hybrid that works and my 3h and 4h Epic Flash with an Atmos Blue are possibly my favorite clubs in the bag. From high shots that land soft to medium trajectory bullets to a 150 yard punch that feeds up into the green, the deep CG and face design makes them a better option for me vs a long iron.
I can’t hit a hybrid for the life of me. Everybody says it’s so easy, and I feel like a complete dummy, because I just can’t seem to get it to work. 8 outta 10 times, all that happens is I top the ball really bad, and it just hobbles forward for like 10 yards or so.
I recently got fitted for Ping irons, and I’m considering getting a G410 Hybrid to complement my set of 6-PW. What confuses me a bit is that Ping says the equivalent to the 5H (at 26° loft) would be the 5-iron - but my G710 6-iron has a loft of 26° itself, so wouldn’t the 4H at 22° be the more logical choice?
My guess is that the hybrids have more cor and thus get higher ball speeds… depending on your gapping, you could go either 4 or 5 and probably be fine. Even if the 4 is 20 yards longer it’s at the top of your bag where those problems are less pronounced.
Ping usually knows what it’s doing though! Maybe get the irons, figure out your distances and then figure out how far you want the hybrid to go?
You could also go with their utility iron.

I think I’m going with the 5H dialled down to 24.5°. That’s probably better for me than the 4H, which is longer, set to 23.5°
I don’t think I could properly hit a U-iron, being the bloody beginner that I am. I need all the help and forgiveness I can get 
Sounds good… if you are new to the game, definitely go with the shorter club, especially if you aren’t confident with hybrids.
On the utility front, good impact helps, but it’s more a swing speed issue than anything (hybrids will be easier, but a bad swing is a bad swing). Long term, if you have the speed, don’t count them out!
I’m happy to discuss and help with any clubs in your bag if you are building a new set. The PINGs are a great set to start with… I know low single digit handicaps playing the 410s. They make awesome irons that will keep up with your game as you improve.
So I started choking down on my 4H and having more success. I just cut the shaft down to my 4 iron length (about 1/2 to .75 inches off…so as not to mess too much with swing weight and flex). I’ll need to get out to a heated range soon though as my home course is now closed until Feb.
A Hybrid will have a longer shaft and a hotter face, so the 26 degree hybrid will be longer than a 26 degree iron. So I think you’d be safe going with a 5 hybrid. You could always consult your friendly neighborhood fitter.

Not sure why, but I much prefer fixed hosel hybrids… I’m looking at the new cobra and srixon models this season.
I’m still figuring out the top of my bag for next season… I’m currently carrying a driver, 13 degree three wood, 18 degree hybrid and 22 utility… I feel like I can combine two of those and cover the same distances with the right hybrid… I like the utility iron for rescue shots and low tee shots into the wind…
Maybe a 18 degree with a hot face to replace my old hybrid and possibly three wood (which doesn’t get hit often)… not sure what I’d do for a 14th club… add a fifth wedge, maybe? Long term I could play with my iron gapping and maybe play reduced loft changes between irons.
I just got the mizuno clk hybrid and it is sweet. Pretty hot face. Not super forgiving but not terribly punishing either. It’s adjustable in lie angle +/- 1° and in loft +/- 2° it’s pretty sweet.

Nice! I have an aversion to adjustable hybrids… I don’t ever adjust them or change shafts, so I’d rather find a fixed hosel that is setup correctly for me and have the extra discretionary weight… I might be an insane person.
Plenty of good options available this next season… not sure if I’ll pull the trigger or not… I’m really interested in cobra and srixon.
