Golf Bagapalooza

Since my wife surprised me by getting rid of my beloved 14 year old Ping Hoofer and replacing it with a Titleist bag that broke within a year, I’ve been looking for a new bag. I’m always tempted to just go back to a Hoofer knowing it will make me happy. But am I doing myself a disservice by stopping there? Kind of like going to a Subway. You know what you’re going to get and it will do the job of filling your stomach, but are you missing out on something incredible like what you could get at Qdoba?

Did I lose everybody with the lunch metaphor?

If you’re still here, tell me what bag you use and why you love it and why you hate it.

I have a real temptation happening with the Stitch SL-2.

If you’re carrying you can’t beat a Ping Hoofer. You’ll never regret the purchase.

I got a Ping Traverse which I use with my push cart and I love it.

I’m sure there are other great bags out there but Ping is just so solid I can’t see a reason to go anywhere else.

I have been using a Sun Mountain Sync for about 6 years. I use it on a push cart 99%+ of my rounds and will likely get another once it finally breaks down for good.

Pros (for me):
• 14-way top + a generous putter well. I use a very wide grip (Two Thumb) so the putter well is needed.
• Cooler pocket, not just sleeve. It gets hot in the deep south and water coolers not currently out.
• Plenty of storage. I don’t use the majority of it but nice to have it if needed.

Cons:
• Too heavy to carry on the course and no stand. Not a big deal for me because I have a very light stand bag for the times I want to carry.
• No waterproof pocket, although I have a feeling that more recent models have likely added it.

Im interested in the sub70 carry bags… great price and they look well built… I haven’t actually seen one in person.

I only ride unless I’m playing with my father-in-law, but I like a carry bag over anything else. Hoofers have always been the top of the mountain, IMO, but there are a lot of new companies making cool stuff.

i have the new hoofer and it’s great for walking. Sure there are other ones that may be lighter but it’s not that heavy. I’m not into the fancy bags. Give me old reliable

See I’m sort of on the this is what I’m talking about side with this statement, but at the same time there’s a piece of me that’s like, hey you work hard. Treat yo self.

If you like a carry bag even as a rider, check out the @mnml bag. I absolutely love it. They come in black or white. They have a solar charger for your phone and they come with a. Speaker too. The pockets are all magnetic opposed to zipper, it’s absolutely perfect. IMO.

I was also going to suggest looking at MNML. I don’t have one, but I absolutely love the look. My current bag came free with my clubs, so it was hard to say no to. If I buy one, I’ll probably go with some of the non-big name DTC bag makers that are making really cool bags right now. Besides MNML, there is also Jones Golf Bags (love the classic leather ones) and Vessel.

Remember - the hoofer isn’t cheap!

As their motto says “before you buy, mygolfspy”

Overall winner: Ping Hoofer, Runner Up: Ping Hoofer Lite, Third Place: Ping Hoofer 14

I’m sensing a trend here…

I’ve had a Callaway ORG 14 in play now for about a month and have been very impressed with its design (multiple pockets, quality zippers, separate club slots, a range finder pocket, a waterproof pouch/pocket, etc.). For a bag this size it’s still pretty lightweight and does fit nicely on my pushcart. It looks like it could stand up to the test of my 100 or so rounds a year for quite a while.

Since I’m 100% in on the pushcarts now, I’ll look at a cart bag next time instead of the stand bags I’ve always used. I have a Sunday bag for the times I just want to take out a few clubs, so the additional bag space would be nice.

CoryO: I made that decision one bag ago (moved from a carry to cart bag for my push cart) and haven’t missed it at all. The extra space is really nice and I haven’t noticed any weight issues with the bag.

The potato salad guy who got $55k completely ruined the chance at “viral GoFundMe for something crazy”. I think it really can only work once. Same as the guy who put up the sign on ESPN College Game Day asking for beer money and sharing his Venmo ID.
