The FlightScope Mevo Plus has been on my radar for a while now, mainly because of all the chatter from golfers claiming it’s the perfect middle-ground launch monitor. You know, the one that offers high-quality data without sending your bank account into cardiac arrest. But let’s be real, just because something’s popular doesn’t automatically mean it’s good. So, I decided to get hands-on with the Mevo Plus to see if it actually lives up to all the praise or if it’s just another overhyped gadget.
Right off the bat, the setup process impressed me. The Mevo Plus is a Doppler radar-based system, which means it needs to be positioned a solid 7 to 8 feet behind the ball. It’s definitely something to keep in mind if you’re working with tight space, but the whole process of setting it up and syncing it with the FlightScope app was a breeze. The app itself is well-designed and pretty user-friendly. It makes switching between settings, sessions, and data tracking feel effortless, which is always a win.
Where the Mevo Plus really shines is in its portability and flexibility. You can easily throw it in your bag, head to the range, or even set it up at home if you’ve got a decent indoor setup. And compatibility? That’s another strong point. It works with popular simulation software like E6 Connect, Awesome Golf, and The Golf Club 2019, giving you plenty of options if you’re trying to build a solid home golf simulator experience.
Now, let’s talk accuracy. The Mevo Plus does an impressive job of capturing the essentials like ball speed, clubhead speed, smash factor, carry distance, roll distance, total distance, spin rate, spin axis, and launch angle. And with the Pro Package upgrade, you get even more detailed metrics like club path, face angle, dynamic loft, and attack angle. For golfers looking to dial in their swing, that’s some seriously helpful information.
But here’s the thing — it’s not perfect. While the accuracy is generally solid, it’s not unusual to see some inconsistencies pop up, especially if you’re hitting indoors with a net. Lighting conditions can also play a role in how well the Mevo Plus reads your shots. Outside on the range, though, it performs like a champ. So, if you’re primarily using it outdoors, you’re probably not going to run into many issues.
The simulation aspect of the Mevo Plus is worth mentioning because it’s actually pretty damn good. E6 Connect works well with the device, giving you a realistic virtual golf experience. The graphics look great, and the feedback from each shot feels spot-on. The only real downside is that the E6 Connect license only includes five courses, and if you want the full experience, you’ve got to pay extra. It’s not a dealbreaker, but it’s something to keep in mind.
One feature I wasn’t expecting to like so much was the built-in camera. It’s not something you buy the Mevo Plus for, but it’s a nice touch. It captures video of your swing that you can review right alongside your shot data. The video quality isn’t jaw-dropping, but it’s decent enough to help you catch swing flaws and make adjustments. Plus, being able to replay your swings in slow motion is a pretty useful addition.
Battery life is decent, offering around five to six hours of use on a single charge, which should be more than enough for most practice sessions. And with a USB-C charging port, getting it juiced up again is quick and painless.
So, who exactly is the Mevo Plus for? It’s pretty much the ideal launch monitor for golfers who want reliable data without dropping insane amounts of cash. It’s portable, versatile, and offers more than enough metrics to satisfy the majority of golfers out there. Sure, if you’re chasing absolute perfection or want a flawless indoor experience every time, you might want to look elsewhere. But for the price, the Mevo Plus offers a ton of value.
The Pro Package definitely makes a difference if you’re serious about your swing, but even without it, the FlightScope Mevo Plus is an impressive piece of gear. It’s not on the same level as high-end monitors like the GCQuad or Trackman, but it’s not supposed to be. It’s a powerful, versatile launch monitor that delivers where it matters most without giving you a heart attack when you check your bank statement.
