Favorite on Course Games

I love the feel of competition on the course. This can add some pressure and make shots mean a little more. Want to mix it up a bit with the games my group currently plays (skins, nassau, etc).

What are your favorite games to play out there?

I like wolf a lot… I think there is some convoluted wolf hammer game that nlu plays, but I haven’t seen it explained.

Here’s an article with a few to try:

I like Michael Jordan’s attitude about gambling. He’ll play you for whatever makes you uncomfortable. That’s sort of my general approach. I like to gamble at just over the amount that I really don’t want to lose–but that’s my ceiling and I never gamble more than that. Point is just to put a bit of pressure on yourself, which as you say brings a different feel to the round.

Nassau is hands down my favorite, I don’t venture too much outside of that with other formats. But if people want to I just tell them “i’m going to play, and you tell me how much I owe you, or you owe me at the end”

I enjoy simple fourball match play, whether its a Nassau format, or whether we change partners every six holes.

In my opinion, the most fun I ever have on the golf course is just straight up four man scramble. Takes a bigger group or tournament, but what’s more fun than free-wheeling with three of your best friends?

Wolf is fun if you’re with a smaller group or just a foursome.

There is so much “junk” in that game is insane. My buddies have wanted to attempt it but have yet to try. I actually printed and laminated a sheet that has all the junk, idk how else to keep track of it.

You could always make your own variation and only pick a handful of junk items.

I played a game not long ago where we had a different partner on each hole. On the first 9, the two drives to the left would be partners, the two to the right their opponents. On the back, the two “outside” tee shots were partners against the two in between. Each player on the winning team on each hole got a point, the points can be whatever value you like. It was a nice change of formats for us.

I like to play worst ball. However, most of the time I can’t get anyone to agree to play it. I love it because you pair up, one pair, driver, riders, others, or 9 holes and then switch the leaders around. However you want to break it up. What I love about it, is it puts a lot of pressure on you not to let your buddy down that just chipped one in or striped it down the middle, otherwise, it doesn’t count and you play the worst of the two balls. I truly believe that makes you ha e to be better. I just wish more people would see it my way.

Scotch is great if you have 4 guys that can play straight up

Edited to add description -
4 bets per hole, 2 on 2

  • birdie
  • closest to pin in regulation
  • low individual
  • low combined team score

Win all 4 bets on a hole and points double.
Trailing team can press (double bet for one hole) after seeing leading team tee off on each hole
