Favorite hidden gem courses?

I love going to that old school 9 hole course that is off the beaten path, may be a bit rough around the edges, but you can tell someone cares for it with love! Anyone else out there too?
I moved to Maine this spring and have gotten to play a lot of really cool courses that will never make any top 100 lists, but are a blast to play. Castine GC, Lucerne Golf, Northport.
Lots of cool ones!

Blue lakes in twin falls, Idaho.

Is it a fair test of your skills? No.

Is it a fun course in an amazingly beautiful environment? Yes.

You can also see the part of the snake river evil knievel tried to jump!

Those tidbits are the content we’re all here for!

Would love to hear more responses to this! So many courses out there that don’t get enough credit.

Panmure Golf Club. About 10 mins from Carnoustie. On the R&A rota for lesser events (amateur, open qualifying, etc). True undiscovered gem. 6500 yards but incredibly tough, with wonderful rolling fairways and links tuft. I honestly think it should be in the top ten courses in the UK. Not sure why it’s overlooked.

Loved Pine Dunes. Played a great 36 holes there. Such a fun course from various sets of tees.

I knew it was you! :joy:

Virginia in Long Beach is definitely a “hidden gem.” Great call there.

Of all the Sand Belt courses, I think Victoria is underrated. It’s as good as Kingston Heath IMO.

One more: Crumpin Fox in Western MA.

Roosevelt Golf Course in Griffith Park-Los Angeles. Wilson and Harding are the park courses everyone thinks about (Wilson is a must play, Harding is a big “meh” from me), but Roosevelt is one of my favorite places. Par 33 nine hole where you can play your whole bag, just irons, 6 club challenge, or what not. Walking only, pace tends to be okay even when packed (except on 6) and you feel completely separate from the city. Beautiful views of the city and observatory don’t hurt either. (Also, the best logo in the city course roster).

Love, love love Roosevelt. The 8th hole is one of my favorite in all of SoCal. Great choice!

Dunham Hills Golf Club in Hartland, Michigan. It’s rarely busy, rates are very affordable and they keep it in great shape.

I’m seriously considering joining a local 9 hole course up here in the Telemark Mountains called Vrådal. Ridiculously short but a super fun course that’s always in good condition. I normally loose a few balls every round because of all the water.
Spectacular nature, no one around, just how I like it. If you are ever in Norway, it’s a nice place to come for the weekend

Ever since the reopening in the spring , they’ve been playing the back tee box on 8 a lot more which means I can try to hit the driver on it. Not to say I SHOULD, but I can (and it’s a really fun shot to try to pull off).

I had a chance to play Pasatiempo last weekend - I would say it is underrated and here is why. If you are ever speaking about golf in that area (NorCal) the courses that get all the talk are Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill, Cypress, etc. Pasatiempo is about an hour north and designed by Dr Alister MacKenzie. The back 9 one of the best back 9’s I have ever played. The bunkering and green complexes are crazy. Every hole is visually appealing.
