You’ll have plenty of time to practice the control function of the remote unit. Good for you that you have chosen to walk the golf course with the electric push cart.
Finally got a chance to try the Motocaddy M7 remote out this past weekend for 18. I liked it and it definitely made walking 18 on a hilly course easier. My back was a bit tight (not golf related) and I would have struggled on the back 9 pushing a cart. Some thoughts:
The cart folds up easily, but it’s noticeable larger than my old Bag Boy TriSwivel. My car has a relatively large hatchback and it still took up a LOT of room. I may leave it at my club since I play 99% of my golf there.
The cart basically skid steers with the remote and on a course with almost no flat areas (even our fairways are severely sloped) and lots of branches and stuff down after winter I was constantly steering it. I used the remote, but will try walking with my hand on it to keep it going straight next time out and see if that takes less attention.
My bag doesn’t fit the cart that well. I have an older Sun Mountain bag that was meant to slot into a Sun Mountain cart and it fit the TriSwivel fine so I never noticed, but not the MotoCaddy. I made it work, but I may look into a new bag like the Motocaddy ones or a SM C130.
You have to be careful with the remote. You can turn it on and off, but I left it on and didn’t have a problem until hole #14. It was in my pocket and as I bent over to put the tee in the ground the reverse button somehow was pushed and the cart started moving backwards. No harm done and it was funny, but it could have ended badly on other tee boxes. The On/Off button is really small and you almost need sharp fingernails to press it. A switch would work better IMO. The remote does have a belt clip so I probably should use that next time to keep it free from random button presses.
The battery really could use a charge indicator. You have no idea how much charge is left. Also the battery just plugs in and drops in. The connector is sticking up and nothing really secures the battery if the cart tipped over. The engineer in me likes the simplicity, but something to lock it in place would be nice.
So it’s not perfect, but I do really like how much energy it saved me and I’ll probably get used to navigating the course with it.
I have an MGI Zip Navigator and ended up mounting my bag on its side! Fits snugly enough that way.
Yes! The bag kept twisting any way so I mounted it that way at the turn. Not ideal if I need to get something out of a side pocket, but good enough.
My wife noticed how my bag is really faded from the sun and said I should get a new one, but that’s probably because there’s something she wants to buy lol.
hahaha happy wife…
FYI I have a hybrid stand bag so just the smaller pocket that I use for extra gloves and less needed items is on the “down” side.
