Early Rory Trackman Numbers

What face to path numbers do you think Rory was putting up when he was hitting a slinging draw in 2010 and 2011? 4 and 2… 5 and 2.5?

The meltdown at Augusta in 2011 that included multiple snap hooks led him to a more neutral path (based on interviews he has given) and then at some point he figured out that he could take on big carries (think 18 at tpc sawgrass) hitting a power fade that has no chance of going left

It is an interesting evolution and he can obviously hit any shot he wants. I love early Rory swing though as a visual / image of shallowing and swinging to right field. It is the inverse of the pattern I fight (suck club inside, come over the top / steep).

The push draw is my natural/stock shot. I shifted from a fade many years ago because the fade had too much of a tendency to turn into a slice. The push draw is so controllable that it makes hard for things to really go off the rails. Misses aren’t out of play and still travel a great distance.

I don’t drop it under the way Rory does, so I don’t get the height - or distance - he does, but that’s somewhat by design. I like a mid-traj driver. It feels more under control and playable for me, especially in the wind. I still hit it plenty far.

I love that Rory made this switch. His swing is beautiful and if I could mold my kiddo’s swing to match someone, it would be Rory.

I still think it’s made Rory’s game better than ever. The majors haven’t been there, but they’re coming.

Lol you are bombing it. Was actually wondering face to path. I think @Adamyounggolf mentioned 2 to 3 degrees out or in is a very playable path (and more accurate than neutral path as it leads to a consistent shape)

I actually don’t know my face to path numbers. They’re not on my report. Guess I better go back!

Lol. If you are hitting a controlled push draw I’d say you are in the slot!

It’s not necessarily more accurate. for any given path, your accuracy will be determined by the window of clubface presentation around it.

A player with a path of +0 and face window of 1 left to 1 right will be just as accurate as a player with a +6 path and a face window of +2 to +4

Personally, for me, I hit it about the same regardless of my path, but a +3 is most natural to me so allows me to have less conscious attention towards it. This allows me to place my attention towards anything else (strike quality, afec control etc) that needs improving.

Some players are more accurate with a 0 path average, some are more accurate with a +6 average. But this will be player dependent, and many other factors are involved. I have specific ways of testing these things to see what the best game plan for any given player is.

What do you think Rory’s stock path was in 2010/2011.

Thanks for the color around path and accuracy. I’ve always played my best when I am able to consistently play the ball right to left. As some one who has been steep / flipped this may be related to pattern and presenting a more stable club face.
