Cross Country Golf

I have two tournaments this weekend (my wife is being very forgiving). One is our club team play where we have a must-win match to get into the playoffs. On Sunday, though, is what I’m most excited about: a four-man scramble cross country tournament. My course is very unique as is, but the planners have come up with some especially ridiculous holes for a 9-hole layout we’ll go around twice. You can check it out on Google Earth here
I know it’s a massive hassle to let us take over the course to do this, but I’m really happy for such a unique experience (by the way, if you are in LA, we allow guests for this one and I have a spot on my team). Have you all had any cross-country golf experiences or anything at your home course you’d like to try?

I played in one like that at least 5 years ago. I was a last minute invite to fill in partly because the course is 10 minutes from my house. I know the course well, but it was interesting to tee off from one hole or in a completely different spot and play to some other green. The tournament even had a scorekeeper go out with each group to make sure you went to the correct tee and played to the right green and keep your score. It did take forever and there was a lot of confusion though.
My Thursday 9-hole league used to do 1 “cross country” hole for their mid year tourney. They would essentially pick 2 holes to combine into 1. Some combos were better than others.

I played in one quite a few years ago. It was initially disorienting, and as Kevomanc said, somewhat confusing. Prior to the round, the head pro gathered everyone to hand out the maps, explain the hole routing and general rules of engagement. After a hole or two, just about everyone got caught up in the spirit of the novelty. It was a fun, kick-back afternoon.

Of course, it led to jabbing in subsequent rounds - “Didn’t you hit from here in the CC Tourney?”, etc.
