If you are a young guy scraping together cash to play the mini tours, how do you pay your coach?
I know at the tour level, you are likely paying a % of earnings… but how does it work before you make it to the big time?
Just curious

You usually get sponsored and the cash comes out of that personal pool. Hopefully you finish in some cash. If not back to another job or the golf club pro. AND there’s nothing wrong with that.
My VERY short stint on the Dakotas Tour didn’t exactly produce any money, but I had a sort of lifelong working relationship with my swing coach. I paid him for years and some time after high school he said you don’t have to pay me anymore, but if we start making money we’ll talk.
It was this way with a lot of guys or they just didn’t have a swing coach at that level. I assume most guys on the “bigger” mini tours have sponsors and pay their swing coaches out of that. My stepbrother played a couple years on the Tight Lies Tour many years ago and he was “sponsored” by my dad.
Thought experiment…
You monday qualify and win a tour event
You are at his house the next week with a 5 or 6 figure check?
This assumes you have had a few years of free instruction
Oh for sure. No way I’m there without that person. They’ll get everything they never charged me plus a hefty chunk. If it were me at least.
