Club grip allergy

I’d like to hear from the rest of you on this topic. For the past few years I noticed a pretty bad skin oddity on my right index finger and thumb (non glove hand) after golfing. It would be worse if I play more than 18 or on consecutive days, to the point of needing to file off the skin. TMI probably. Doing some research I learned that anyone producing rubber changed the chemical they use to cure the product a few years ago, about the same time I started noticing this issue.

Earlier this year I spoke with Iomic and bought 13 of their grips because they are made of a different material (polymer?). Seems to have helped my issue, which is awesome. But the grips are already showing wear. My driver, wedges, and several irons have the typical thumb marks on them. At $15 per grip (I learned to install them myself during Covid) prior to installation costs, it will be pretty pricey to perpetuate.

Anyone have a similar problem?
Any suggestions of non-rubber grips that are cheaper or might last more than 50 rounds and a lot of range time (like my old tour wraps)?

Have you been tested for latex allergies?

Would you ever consider wearing two gloves? Might be the most cost effective option.

Not officially, but I use latex gloves all the time without issue so I assume I’m ok.

I also think almost all Winn grips are polymer these days.

Possibly, I’ll have to check. Winn grips always feel great but they wear out quickly. Maybe I grip too hard :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I think that’s the problem with polymer grips. I think there are a couple companies making old-school leather grips with modern installation ability. Would last a long time, but would have to keep them conditioned.

This has crossed my mind and I believe it absolutely is the most cost effective option even at $20 per hand for my Permasofts. I never like wearing two rain gloves but that’s probably because I never practice that way so I should give it a try this winter.

Have never experienced that issue. Have you tried Lamkin grips? Most of their grips are a rubber compound that likely has a good bit less rubber than Golf Pride grips do. I actually prefer them to GP grips because they are much more durable for me and I do not experience any performance shortfalls in comparison with them.

I have never used a Lamkin, always defaulted to the old school Golf Pride Wraps. I will investigate further, thanks!

They tend to be lower priced than GP for the comparable grips which is also a big bonus. I typically use either the UTx (full cord) or Z5 (partial cord). I live in the deep south so a high level of moisture management is a must.
