Wow that is one beautiful setting for a golf course!
Beautiful. One of these days I’ll get out there. Really want to play Entrada and Sand Hollow.
@TSmith this course is stunning. I go to St. George on an annual boys trip, and I’m. It able to make it this year because of my new job (work schedule) of course this is on the list. Now I’m even more bummed.
Sand hollow is amazing and my best friend’s son-in-law is the executive chef at Entrada. They just redid the entire course. It’s been shutdown for like 8 months.
It’s not public, but if you find yourself near Louisville again, I’m always happy to host a round at hunting creek… it’s $88 with cart, I believe.
Solid track!
Ojibwa Golf (and Bowl) Chippewa Falls WI. 9-holes. The fall special is 15.99 with cart riding single. Boy is it packed, but played bad golf quickly, the par 3s (2 of them) are tricky little things.
Over the weekend I played at Royal New Kent, a Mike Strantz course. Strantz courses can be polarizing, with a reliance on visual intimidation and deception, but I’ve enjoyed every one I’ve played. The course was renovated a couple of years back, after falling into disrepair, and it was in pretty good shape. The price was just under $100 on a Sunday, but is $75 on weekdays, a pretty good deal.
I haven’t played Tobacco Road (over $100), but have played Tot Hill Farm ($50-90) by Strantz. Wouldn’t want to play it everyday, but is great to mix it up and get to
I’ve only played Tot Hill Farm once, and thought it was the most severe of the Strantz courses. Caledonia is the most traditional among them. I play Tobacco Road once every couple of years, and I always enjoy it, but after a bit you learn that there’s generally only one smart way to play it. If you play smart golf, it can be very manageable, as long as you’re getting your ball airborne. Royal New Kent is very similar that way.
I’m glad you say Tot Hill is the most extreme, since I can’t imagine much more extreme. It’s definitely not as bad after you’ve played it a few times and understand where there is room, but there are some places where there legitimately is NO room (2nd hole if you can’t hit it ~230/250 carry off the tee (depending on your tee box) you have about 15 yards width to land it). There are also some tiny portions of greens which, though I’ve never seen a pin there, would be nearly impossible.
And when this Covid mess is over, I look forward to playing at Naga-Waukee down in Waukesha, WI (another bargain -34.50 + cart for non-residents) -I’ll have to try to keep up with my younger brothers!
At the moment with sunset at 2000 you can play Mt Osmond GC, where I am a member, for $30 after 1500
I won’t play any course unless the parking lot is 50% pickups and there’s no dress code. Anything fancier is not golf.
Haha, sounds like you have fun on the course!
Only budweiser allowed as well?
No, Lefty. Only craft beers. Budweiser is for those guys who insist on name brands on everything and never fix pitch marks.
My buddy got me onto Old Cork Screw in Estero Florida last weekend for a $70 reciprical rate. It was nice, but way too hard for me. For the record, I would never pay more than $100 for a round of golf. My game is not near that level.
I echo the comments about Michigan golf. Great value for the money throughout the state. Even though they are “private” you can usually find ways to get on the 2 UM courses - Radrick Farms and Stadium. The former is Pete Dye’s 1st 18 hole design, while the Stafium course was designed by Allister Mackenzie. Both under $100. The new IU course in Bloomington, Pfau, is challenging and fun.
