Best affordable clubs for senior women

Ladies, please share your knowledge with this beginner! Of course I’ve been lookin on the internet already, but experience is the best teacher!

Not a lady here, but will give what I think will be the common answer here and that is that there won’t really be any one good answer. Many will say getting fit for clubs is the best, but that is hard to fit under the definition of affordable. For a beginner, if you have clubs you can swing at all, I would recommend taking the money that would be spent on clubs and getting lessons.
If you are already getting lessons and want some new clubs, but don’t want to take the full dive into fitting, then I would recommend some lower cost Direct to Consumer club makers. Most of my clubs are from GigaGolf.com and I have only had good experiences with them. They don’t sell a “ladies” set, but you can get any of there sets in a shaft that makes sense for your swing speed. They have an online “fitting” tool that will make recommendations based on some measurements like how tall you are and the distance from your wrist to the floor, hand size for grips, and how far you hit a 5 iron for shaft flex. It’s not perfect, but would give you a set more customized for you than buying a “ladies” box set from a store.

Thanks! I’ll check it out!

I worked on my swing with hand me down clubs for two seasons before I felt confident enough in my swing to look at new irons.

I demo’d several sets before deciding on the Cleveland’s I’m currently playing. I wanted more forgiveness with distance and I liked how they felt.

THEN I went on eBay and searched for used ones. Found a full set that was barely used ( 3 of them were still shrink wrapped!) for a fraction of the price of new.

Found my driver at a used sporting equipment store, got very lucky, it was in immaculate condition although about five seasons old. It suits my swing and I paid $40 for it.

Picked up my wedge and putter at a golf expo. Went the last day of the show, with 2 hours left. Trust me, they don’t want to haul all their merchandise back home if they don’t have to- dickered with two different vendors until I got the price I wanted.

I appreciate your helpful reply! Golf expo, sounds interesting! I just won the bid, for 4 Adams Golf Idea a205 clubs- driver, #3, hybrid 6 and a pitching wedge. The original set I have are ladies’ Nicklaus Golden Bear clubs, age unknown. I bid on the Adams as they state they are lightweight, and the driver head is much bigger. Can’t complain as I’m only spending $36 plus shipping! Meanwhile, I have to get myself much more flexible to get a good full swing going.

I love the expos, there are always great deals on the last day!

Nice grab on the clubs, let us know how you like them after you’ve played

They arrived yesterday, in time to play in the afternoon! In 20 mph winds. The driver head is almost twice the size of my Golden Bear driver. Lighter also. I THINK I got more speed into my swing, when I hit it straight is seemed to go maybe 10 yards farther. But it also seemed to have less ‘feel’ to the swing. Only tried the 3 wood a couple of times, off the tee on a par 3 and off the grass (I can’t hit a wood off the grass worth a damn!) Money well spent. Sadly, I hadn’t played or practiced in over a week, THAT seemed to be the problem. I’m liking the hybrid 6 also, want to get more hybrids!

I also struggle with hitting my 3W on the fairway, but take comfort knowing it’s a difficult shot to master. Unless my lie is PERFECT, I leave it in my bag.
Congratulations on the new clubs! Once you get used to them you’ll start hitting them better, in the meantime, give yourself a free pass, and take them to the range to start getting a sense of which club you need for specific distances

I read or saw a video about hitting 3 wood off of the turf compared to the tee. It said that if you struggle with hitting it off of the fairway move the ball back in your stance about a ball more towards the middle.

Great advice. I got a chance to play today also, 9 holes with my sis. She had an old Big Bertha 3 wood (has that triangle looking face), for some reason I could hit THAT 3 wood! Seems I have a problem with clubs that are narrow from the bottom of the sole to the top of the head…
