What’s the most effective kind of practice you do around your home when you can’t get to the range? I usually putt and chip and will do some full swing drills in front of a mirror. Would appreciate any new ideas.
Here’s an article I wrote with some ideas to get you started
Any tips for practicing wedges inside? I live in an apartment and don’t have access to a yard to tear up.
If you don’t have room for a net then I think you’re out of luck. I don’t want you to tell to do something that will break a window/wall
While what you can do can very greatly on what kind of house you have, an insanely helpful thing EVERYONE can do at home is work on their flexibility and general fitness. A yoga routine and body weight core work can do just as much good for your game as mirror drills.
I stretch a lot, putt in my living room, chip in my yard and work on my pre-shot routine. And occasionally I pull out the driver and work on tempo which I’m sure makes my neighbors think I’m crazy.
I just purchased online some “Flat balls” and I am waiting for them to arrive. Has anyone tried these?

I’ve been curious about these as well. For less than $10 on amazon, I’ll give them a shot. I’ll take them to the park first and try some distances and see if they’ll stay in my yard. I’ll report back!
I do a lot of chipping in my yard to work on distance and routine. I also have a couple Orange whips one I use outside and a shorter one that I can swing outside. Putting is also done if it needs some work. Occasionally I will work on full swing by doing slo-mo swings or other drills
I do fitness and speedwork (SuperSpeed) at-home. I also bought a gently used hitting matt from a driving range and a $150 net from Dicks and will hit PW-Driver into that as well.
I think you could also work on some speed training. With a PRGR and the SuperSpeed golf sticks, you could work through the program.
Also, Clay Ballard’s TopSpeedGolf program can be done mostly inside.
I have them, I use them in my basement and garage where my net is. It’s helped me to have have more consistency with my irons. I usually will hit 5 or 6 and then hit my golf balls into the net. I used them all winter last year with great results in the spring.
I think my neighbors think the same of me.
The speed work is getting to be a necessity. I know Phil has been doing that. One of the keys for hitting it further.
How high and far do you wind up hitting them with a good strike?
You must have a high ceiling in your basement.
I can fly them about 20 yards but I’m not trying to swing out of my shoes with them either. I went a little extreme a few months ago and tried hitting pennies in my bedroom:
hahaha that’s is amazing
I’m also limited at home, but I do have a garage. I bought a swing mat on eBay with a built-in tee on one half and simulated rough on the other half. Picked up some foam practice balls, and since I couldn’t really afford a net, I put some old mattress toppers in front of the garage door.
It’s not fancy, but with some foot spray on my club faces I can practice everything from driver to wedge, 1/4 swing to full swing.
I also put a plastic bucket in front of the garage door to practice chipping.
