Advice on a full brim hat?

I’m on a search for a good golf hat (male) that has good sun protection. My normal baseball style hat just isn’t good enough to protect my skin these days and guarding against skin cancer is no joke as you age. My hiking hat is ok until the afternoon wind starts blowing and I’m not coordinated enough to swing with one hand on the hat, one hand on the club.

Anyone have a hat they love they can give me a recommendation?

Sounds like you’re a candidate for a bucket hat. Perhaps the cowboy Shingo Katayama hat? Either way you gotta just commit to that look and rock the heck out of it.

Good luck on your search!!

Golf Sidekick put out a recommendation list. He did put his own at #1, but besides that there are several good options in there based on preferred style.

I’ll also say that during these COVID days, I’ve been wearing a neck gaiter out on the course as my face covering, but I think I’ll keep doing so even in the future. Great to keep the neck covered and can soak it in cool water on hot days. I also wear arm sleeves and would recommend those as well.

I know a few people in Vegas that absolutely love this hat!!

I have one from Coolibar, offers great protection :sun_with_face:

I just ordered an Arctic Hat. Walmart has them on sale for $14.

I went with a Tilley T3 Wanderer this year and I’m pretty happy with it. It has both a head strap-type string and chin strap for windy days, but if you get the size right, it will stay in place without the strings in moderate winds.

A small, but frightening enough encounter with skin cancer a couple of years ago caused me to move to a full brim hat too. I’ve been really happy with Titleist’s Tour Aussie hat. Plenty of protection, stylist, with a strap to help to it in place on windy days. I’ve also got a Coolibar, but the brim is a little too wide for me.

I just got my moles checked a couple of months ago. Golfers need to be careful with the sun! Almost everyone I play with doesn’t put sunscreen on :grimacing::grimacing::grimacing:

I often wear a full-brimmed hat. I got mine at Bethpage. Covers my ears and at least half my face. Covid beard doing the rest

Are the arm sleeves hot? I’ve wondered how comfortable they are.

The ones I use are moisture wicking, so actually feels slightly cooler when you sweat than just bare skin.

what brand do you use?

eBay! This listing is a good example:

All the arm sleeves are is mostly polyester (which gives the moisture wicking and UV protection) with a bit of spandex to make them stretchy and stay in place. Grabbing them on eBay gets the price down to a buck or two a pair where as the same material with a Swoosh on it cost 5-10 times that.

I received the Arctic Hat. I won’t be wearing it on the golf course. It looks cheap and tacky to me. I will use it for bike rides and to the beach.

I’m going to read through this thread again in search of the perfect wide-brimmed golf hat.

Just reporting back. That article was great and I picked up a Sunday Afternoons Havana Hat from Amazon which I really like. It’s not all that breathable but seems cool enough, has good sun protection, and it has an adjustable headband so you can batten down the hatches when the wind picks up. It’s synthetic so I assume shoving it in your bag won’t really damage it either.

Sorry that you’re not a fan of the Arctic. Hopefully it will serve its purposes for the beach and bike rides as you mentioned that way it wasn’t a waste of your money.

No worries. I ordered an Aussie Chiller. I think I’ll be happier with a more structured hat. But living in Florida, I will be able to put the Arctic to good use.

Let me know what you find. I’d like to go with a full brim hat, but 1) I have a massive noggin and 2) if the brim gets too big it interferes with my swing.

The Titleist Aussie hat fits my huge cranium nicely. Have you ever thought that maybe your swing interferes with your hat, and not the other way around?
