2021: the hype thread

This forum isn’t focused on gear fixing problems, which is why I’m here… but that doesn’t mean new gear isn’t exciting!

We are headed into the release cycle for a ton of stuff, so what are you excited about?

I’m excited about the new irons from cobra. Mim technology seems interesting and they make a good product. Im definitely going to try them out.

Sub70 ta3s also look amazing. No idea release date or if I can even play them… but they are prettty!

Titliest seems to have an interesting driver I want to try. Curious to see early reviews. The tsi4 might be a perfect fit for me.

I’m still curious about the new mizuno wedges, just haven’t hit them!

What are you excited about?

I’m interested to see whether other manufacturers come out with light weight clubs for slower swing speeds like the Titleist TS1 Driver.

I’m excited about 2021. That’s it, that’s what I am excited about. I am sure I will be overwhelmed with the golf technology and spend many hours at Golf Galaxy, tinkering.

I’m hoping 2021 brings more golf for me! Hoping when the 3 year old turns 4 she gets more cooperative and self sufficient so mom can take care of the 1 year old with less distraction and I can play! (and when I take care of them they’re easier on me)

I’m excited about the 2019 models dropping another $100 in price.

I’m excited for Taylormade to release new stuff so I can get a SIM Max 3 wood for less. :smirk:

I’m incredibly interested in the JPX 921 Forged irons. Not sure new irons are in the plan for 2021 though.

I’m also interested to see the new Sub70 wedges. I really like my current Sub70 wedges and they are still great with 180+ rounds on them. But I might splurge on the new ones.

I am always excited for Ben Hogan Golf releases, hence my forum name. GS53 Max driver just hit the conforming list so that will be one release. According to an interview I saw with their CEO Scott White, the next iron set releases will be an upgrade to their Edge model. Wouldn’t be surprised to see a couple of new putter models and possibly balls come out in 2021.

I’m excited to get a putter dialed in. I don’t care who makes it, how much it costs, or even really what it looks like. I want to feel confident in the flagstick.
I’m excited for some steps I’m taking to help with the above statement. Working with an incredible local teacher to hopefully take my game to that next level I’ve been chasing.
I’m excited to get back into high level competitive golf after being away for a couple years.
I’m excited to hit some new irons and see if I want to make a change there, as well. If nothing else I think a shaft change is in order.
A friend of mine just ordered a Finn cycle. I’m excited to try that!
I’m hoping to get some kind of indoor setup going this winter. That’s feeling more and more like a pipe dream with some other things going on right now, but even if it’s basic I’ll be grateful.

I won a hogan driver and three wood on GolfWRX… I wish I had selected a different shaft… it’s a good looking head, it just never performed for me.

What shafts are you looking at? I got fit a year ago and ended up back where I started in dynamic golds (though the s400 is the best fit for me)… I figured the c tapers would be the best fit, but they were awful for me.

On the putter front have you looked at the LAB putters? If you are willing to spend the money, I think they are one of the most intriguing offers… i haven’t been able to find a demo near me and I’m not taking a $500 flyer on one… but they are on my list when and if the opportunity presents itself.

It also can be used as a cattle brand!

I didn’t win them but did not choose wisely the shafts I got in the driver, 3 wood or 5 wood either. Had a good replacement for the driver shaft and have been gaming it for about a year and a half. Need to get off my hind parts and change the FW shafts.

I got a different shaft into the driver, I will give it another run this spring.

I really try to go into fittings with zero brand allegiance or forethought on what I “want” because really what I want is what gives me the best results. I don’t care if it’s 7 pool noodles with plastic rakes on the end.
Right now I have the Nippon Modus Tour 105s and I loved the feedback they gave me when I got them, but my swing speed is up quite a bit and they feel less stable. Looking for that feedback/stability combo I had before my speed increase. Trajectory and spin could be improved a little, too.
Putter-wise I’m open to anything! I’ve been messing around with my old Bettinardi blade after using mallets for the last 6 years. My eye seems to like the blade look even though that specific Bettinardi is definitely not “the one.”

I hear you on the shafts! I went in open minded but knew what I thought would work best (c tapers) and I was wrong. Interestingly, the x100 were generating more spin than the s300s for me… s400s seems to be my tight combination of stiffness and spin levels.

I just bought a new Vokey SM8 wedge and am looking forward to seeing what I can do with it.

I’m not a gear head, but 2020 was a good equipment year for me. Got a Honma TR20 driver through MGS, and got Sub70 639CB irons and a 699u 3 iron, so I’m expecting those to all be in my bag for a good 5+ years. I need to get putter fit, so hopefully that will happen in 2021, and also need to get some new wedges to adjust my gapping. I don’t practice much and when I do it’s not in sandy soil, so my wedges normally last several years too.

Great line @Bigdadenergy I love this and will set it aside for future use, probably this weekend “I could have driven that better with a pool noodle!” :joy:

excited for the father in law to get excited, buy clubs, and then place them in the club bin 1 month later.

Club bin has been good to nick papageorgio

Haha… sadly my dad is worse about changing clubs than I am… he finally replaced his 20+ year old irons with custom fit pings 2 years ago… he only did it because he likes to carry and figured graphite shafts were lighter and would make it easier to carry!!!

He is 6’10 and I believe his irons are +3! His 7 iron was the length of my 3 iron…
