Watching Golf - Keep it Interesting

Yeah, another recreational golfer here who’s becoming increasingly un-interested in watching network or Golf Channel coverage…

Sound off has been utilized a lot!

Just seems to me like GC is a bit lost when Tiger isn’t playing. Coverage really is just a shot highlight reel plus a lot (lot, lot, lot) of putting. And recently it seems as if their new talk show is always on…

Anyway, my thoughts on watching are based on if you were to attend a tournament - you’d most likely do one or both of two things…

  1. Follow a preferred player or group around the course;
    and/or,
  2. Stand at a particular tee or green or other spot of interest to watch how different players handle it.

Maybe more of that - and I totally agree with using more (pro) caddies as on-course commentators!

Oh, my other “fix”?

Listening to Jon’s Practical Golf podcast :slightly_smiling_face::+1:

I do have to say, the Masters continues to lead the way in golf broadcasting… the Masters App is actually good and useful. They let you pick what hole / golfer / group you are watching… They actually took advantage of modern technology and allowed the consumer to have more choices…

Unfortunately, every other tournament exists in a world of established rules and best practices, so any change will be incremental… Hopefully one day we will be able to pick what broadcast we want to watch and be able to watch golf how we want to watch it…

It would be awesome if the broadcasts would tune into these conversations during the actual tournaments

My biggest complaint about all golf coverage (PGA) on TV is the constant negativity of the announcers and commentators…These guys set such unrealistic expectations on each shot, greatly exceeding the real percentages for a given outcome that are so well documented these days. Personally, I don’t think the announcer should ever make a comment on the play of a pro…because they aren’t pros…just announcers. Mostly I mute it and listen to music…and take deep breaths! :slight_smile:

Definitely agree about the broadcasters need to say something about every shot. The best thing about broadcasts is how they are getting Bones and John Wood, former caddies, to discuss what they would do with a pro especially before a big shot. Thinking back to tournament of champions playoff, both were standing over each ball and it was great
