The LIV Tour --- and a Scruffy Phil ! Opinions -- agree or disagree?

Money also makes the world go round.
I guess, can’t blame anyone who can be in the position of receiving the pennies from the sky, to achieve the sense of financial security.
hackandsmile is correct that the only attraction of the LIV Tour is the absurd amount of money they threw at the golfers for sign on bonus. It’ll wear thin really fast.
If they are smart, they’d fold the Tour quickly after all signs showed it won’t work, or they could stay on their doomed course a few year longer and dunk more money into it.

I have to really agree with the last 2 posts. Do we really think any Tour Player would move to a competing professional golf tour just to play in 54 hole events with no cuts or history just because? I hate to say it, but 98% of players aren’t jumping without incentive. And the hundreds and hundreds of millions in incentives being bandied about is no joke! I’m not an angel, if I was a middle of the road player or a guy on the way down…. Ya gotta put dinner on the table and this is how they do it. There aren’t a lot of range rats out there anymore like the old days. Tiger is probably the last of the great guys that came up thru muni golf. I mean a lot of these guys are so good, they hate it, because what else could you do in life to make that kind of payola? DJ would rather be fishing, Na would rather be with his kids by the pool. Phil would rather have long conversations with his bookie, Brooksie wants to be on a nude beach in Jamaica with his squeeze, Bryson just wants to hit bombs and lift weights. All that talent and they’ve lost their drive to compete. I don’t think the 54 camel tour is good for guys that carry around a copy of the Rules of Golf in their bags. I used to, but now it’s on my phone. It might be attractive to the mopes I see on our course recently with loud music blaring from their cart, a 12pack of The latest IPA and A mishmash of clubs in their dads old golf bag! Golf Courses need players willing to pay bux to play rounds and they don’t care. I remember going to one of the courses in Florida years ago before Trump. If you wanted to okay the Blue Monster at Doral. You had to go to the range first and someone would say yay or nay!

Next thing they do is apply the rules to their interpretation.
The ones blasting music on our muni golf courses are not poor. Almost always they’ll be riding golf carts and beer is not their fab these days, they openly ingest cannabis products. I had a guy stuff the Mary Jane into the shell of the swisher and smoke it after we’re out of sight from the club house. I kindly turned it down after they offered me to join their party on the golf course, since I still wish to enjoy my golf game.
Their brand new staff bags were not filled with their dad’s old golf clubs, but with new OEM stuff. Probably $3,000-$8,000 shinning stuff. I really don’t know if they bought the equipment with their own money or charged off their father’s credit cards. Really don’t care.
Doubt these “golfers” will be around in another few years. This game will presents too much work and commitment for these kind of attitude. They get on the golf course because it is “cool”. Because Tiger Woods and the likes gave a glorious image of playing this game. They buried their expensive golf clubs into the ground when they had a bad shot. They all think they’re tour players playing a Tournament being broadcast.
They ae out of touch with reality and seriously, they won’t find satisfaction nor happiness from anything, especially from this game.

I just had to post one thing because I’m literally beside myself. I honestly don’t care whether this was taken out of context or not. I am SO DONE with these A$$HOLES who jumped, I have lost all respect for these greedy, entitled bastards (excuse me). Apparently there was a protest by some 9/11 families at the Ridge… I get that. Bryson tells them “you need to just move on!” I’ll show him and the rest of these mutineers MOVE ON! I mean you do not have any right or conscious to mock any innocents… you DID NOT EARN THAT RIGHT! Especially hitting golf balls for a living. They literally are pieces of GARBAGE in my view. If, at some point in time, they come crawling back to the PGA Tour and the TOUR lets them back in…I’m done with them too. I had to get that off my chest…I’m really angry about this… I was willing to say I get you doing the money grab… Nah! Not any more. Hit your balls and shut up! I’d like to Stick that SIK somewhere…I’m sure I could find a hole!

I had no idea. Just to share my opinion. I have never like Bryson from the beginning before he won any title. There are many of the flag wavers who though he might be the white knight to carry on from the Tiger craze.
Something about his kid I did not like. I could not put my fingers on it back then. Now I know. He is an idiot.
He is an idiot, selfish and an opportunist. Who does not understand why he is here on earth for. His days is ending and the doorways are closing from his injury at such a young age. He is but finished. All is holding the threads together is his youth.
Move on from the 9-11? To the face of the survivors and family from the event? He is definitely not smart. Walking by in silence would have been the best move he should have taken.
He IS, an idiot.
I did not favor him before, and now, I despised him!

According to the News report, since I was not there 3 1/2 hours from us.
The Portland event was refreshing according to the article for (1) $5 beer at a sporting event (2) infants change station available and restrooms ( honey buckets) were clean. (3) not crowded, a pleasant day to get outdoors …
It is a good deal for $5 beer ( they did not elaborate of the size ) at a sporting event, I have to say, that price was decades old. To pay the $70 ground ticket for the day to enjoy the $5 beer, hum, it makes sense. Could have brought a loaf of bread and a hunk of cheese to complete the picnic list. ( it’s not certain whether outside food is allowed to be brought in ).
I applaud the organizer for having a place for the parents to change their very young and keeping the honey buckets clean. Not that it is a good idea of bring the very young for an all day outdoor event. I hate to use the over flowing smelly honey buckets at a crowded event.
Not crowded ( no official number for the attending fan ); maybe a nice stroll at a golf course.
No official number of the free giveaway tickets.
As believed and echoed by many, this is not a sustainable model for any “business” throwing 9 figures initial sunk cost and approaching 10 figures really fast.
I have no idea who promised what to someone that the boat might right itself when approaching the bridge. It sure did not happen for the first few events. It has the sign of a poorly planned, rushed job all over the place.
I guess in the end, the question to both the players and the patrons will be this; would you support anything that goes against your believe in life to profit from it or are you only motivated by the digits in the bank under your name? Like on the golf course, one will reveal ones true self come crunch time.
They had forgotten that we only have a short visit here, one body to enjoy what life has to offer. It won’t matter how many birdies you’ve had when you’re standing on the 18th green.
It will be a tough call, to take the handout knowing the act will go against what the main stream and the act will not sustain. Or stand your ground and wait and see. Most the people I talked to regarding this issue don’t care what the players do. The PGA on the other hands definitely should not bail out the failing LIV. I mean, would you come lend a helping hand to the guy come after you with a knife just minutes before he gets in a quick sand ?
Maybe you should, but really don’t need to.

A statement release by Rory McIlroy for the PGA and the LIV to “talk”.
I wonder what is his motive? Did he get compensated behind the scene to be the middle guy?

At least, on the surface, the PGA has no reason to offer peace to someone who is trying to uproot your business and at the moment -failing.
More domestic events are coming up and we shall see when the events move to NE later on, the cradle of the sports; on this continent.

So the mutineers filed a suit to allow them to play in the events leading up to THE OPEN. Court granted them an injunction. So these mutineers are really just teeing it up on the 54 whacking it around on non championship setups, having a pint, holding very stupid pressers and going home. Maybe making golf fun for them, but not high level. They don’t have to practice anymore! Why and how do we know this? So Phil shows up and goes +20 and Poulter goes +12 on championship level course. Real fun to watch huh? Anyone of these guys who play make a cut and in contention? 54 is Country Clubbing it. They might be able to steal a few more guys for the cash, but 54 will not improve the game in my view in the least.

Why would anyone be motivated to stretch to their edge of potential or beyond if, their pocket is full?
Price money is the motivation for these guys turned professional otherwise they could be a life long amateurs.
Don’t kid yourself if someone says otherwise.
Byron Nelson fought for the price money and the sudden retirement at the peak of his game was probably to fulfill a promise he made for the retirement. Once he figured that he had enough money to get his dream house and cattle ranch, he’s gone.
Everyone turned professional was going after the price money.
I always think if the mind is corrupt, the body will go soon. No matter how many digits to their bank account for the action they had chosen, consequences will follow, sooner or later.
Maybe these guys were happy that a secured retirement was sent from heaven; now they have to plan it out to be able to enjoy it.
Enjoyment is not just material; majority of the enjoyment comes from the state of mind. If they don’t understand this, then no one could enlighten them,

Greg Norman issued statement of disappointment for being warned to stay away from the 150th celebration of the Open by the R&A. Why? Should he be surprised.

Maybe Australian English language is different from ours. What doesn’t he seem to understand you are no longer welcome. So NO you can’t come. Pretty straight forward don’t ya think?

I had recognized that Norman is a great golfer but not very bright above his shoulders.
One of the main excuse he kept on using was, the LIV is better for the game of golf. He forgot that this world is pretty much transparent and his motive to personal gain and setting personal score are not easily fudged over.
The LIV will diminish or damage everything the current value and structure of this game, which had built up in the last century and half.
He miscalculated and underestimate everyone else, besides him.
His head is so big, for a living person, have a larger than life sized bust of himself in his garden.
He is/was one of the great golfers, but I don’t think he realized who he really is, comparing to all the others in his field of achievement.
Give the ignorant a few dollars in their pocket and soon they will believe they are Gods.

Now DoJ looking to see if PGA Tour violated anti-trust laws. One more time—Toscano v PGA Tour. PGA Tour found not in violation. This has already been settled. Nothing has changed since the 1990s. What a complete waste of taxpayer dollars!

As I understood, they were likely to rule against the Tour, but Finchem pulled a lot of strings with powerful people to get it shut down. But I agree nothing really has changed and even if the Tour is in violation they will likely be able to get out of it.

No strings pulled. Judge found no violation of Sherman Antitrust Laws. Toscano Decision

Search around a bit and you’ll find accounts of how Finchem worked really hard for 4 years to keep the Tour’s status quo. Even Jack was a bit critical of the Tour’s policies back then…not as much as Norman was of course lol

It is not surprising of the rebellious behaviors from the “under level” As all revolution in history had the similar back ground with different motives.
Such is the struggle with the labor/management, poor/rich…
I’m just surprised that those making a good living off the Tour would complain. I’d say, if you’re not happy, get back in line, right?
Hence my personal opinion, is not to allow those being suspending back on the regular tour by flicking the switch as they see fit. They should be made to climb the ladder of qualifying as a rookie. They had used and lost their privilege.
Or maybe, they should just retire to play the LIV tour , show casing their glory from yester years.

Again, I’m quite confident that baseball has a special exemption from Sherman. PGA does not. There are very specific laws, pretty much not left up to interpretation as to what would and would not be in violation of Sherman. Toscano did not have any findings that the tours rules were in violation of Sherman. There is little left for interpretation. The Tour is a membership entity that writes its own rules for membership. Those rules did not prevent Toscano from pursuing his living. It’s like go ahead knock yourself out, the Tour does not have to bend its rules for you. You have to conform to their rules if you want to play tournament golf. Did anyone stop DJ from playing? No Do we have to let him play on the Tour if he is in breach of our rules? No. I go back to my example of I work my day job for Schwab, I took a moonlight job at Fisher. Schwab finds out, they have every right to term you if their policy is you cannot simultaneously work for our competitors. It’s as simple as that

Will you be as interest in your favorite dinner, after you just had your stomach filled?
These guys will not be motivated to compete in the Majors, after their bank account is tapped and they could make payment for their lavish houses and exotic sports cars ( or even a private jet and luxurious mega yacht ).
Their agents and caddies will be left out of this bonus deal, so, think they will be motivated to promote the player’s wellbeing ?

Again, I can’t crucify them for taking the stupid money. However, the true color of who they are is in plain sight for everyone to see.

Take the money and retire instead of shooting +31 in the two days show case.

I don’t know what u do or did for a living. I very much liked what I do, however, if I didn’t HAVE to do it and I could spend my days being an awesome dad and husband, entertaining family and friends, playing golf, gardening, maybe taking a few fishing trips or site seeing in Tuscany or Ireland. I’d way much rather be doing that. As I said, if I was already wealthy and someone compounded my wealth x5 in one day and I really never had to hone my trade, I showed for 3 days 20 times a year. I’m out. I have ZERO desire to be the best chef in the world. Nor the best businessman. It’s not that I don’t have drive or desire, BUT, there’s more to life! We play the game for fun, they don’t! I dont begrudge them anything, however, they have to follow rules. For example Brooks got $125M one shot. You can take $25M and live pretty high on the hog, invest $100M and probably get a $6M ROI not including the probably $10M you’re gonna get from no cut events. Plus a few endorsements. Not bad! Be like Rafa and hang out on my yacht in the Mediterranean! I do think having to play a sport at a very high level to make a living is very hard, it is very demanding, I’m sure no longer having to that is wonderful. Another perspective would be like this. Playing ball in the NBA is hard and demanding. That’s why those guys get paid. Imagine quintupling your salary and just having to show up for 30 exhibitions, but never playing NBA anymore, no travel, no practice, no nothing. Not a hard decision. In the end being the next Michael Jordan… no one cares when you die. Cuz in the end it’s all about family and friends
