I started delving into the mental game fully about 18mths ago (directly from one of the blog articles from @jon / Practical Golf). Every advocate discusses visualisation and how powerful it is. Some even explain some of the science behind visualisation. That seems to really appeal to me. I’m much better if I understand the background rather just trying to accept things at face value.
Anyway. I started developing a pre shot routine. I pick a specific target, visualise the ball flight, set up and swing - trying to avoid consciously thinking about it too much. When my tempo is good it amazes me how my ball flies towards my target! If it’s a par 4 I visualise the ball landing 220yds or so down the fairway aiming towards the birch tree. I don’t really think about MY shot vs THE shot. I think I intuitively visualise my shot. Man - I need to not think about this or it’s gonna mess me up!
