Playing your “home” course vs branching out

As of now, I’ve played 25 different courses this year, though I’ve played 80% of my rounds at my home course. I’ve played 122 times so far in 2020.

This year has been unusual in terms of number of courses played. I’ve joined the same club for the last 10 years and usually play there 90% of the time, and then try to work in 1-2 rounds per month at other courses. But due to a massive storm (called a Derecho), my home course was shut down for almost 7 weeks to clean up downed trees, forcing me to branch out more.

In summary, I play most of my golf at my home course but do try to branch out to enhance my golf experiences.

Thanks for rubbing it in!

Ha! I’m fortunate that my home course is 3-4 minutes from my house, and I can play 18 in about 3 hours.

I’m also fortunate that my kids are older (college and senior in high school) and my wife doesn’t mind me being gone.

I’m good with all but the older kid part. Infant and toddler really are a drag on the golf game.

I play the course I am a member at roughly 85-90% of the time. Most of the golf I do that isn’t at that course would be under one of the following.

  • Playing with someone from work.
  • Playing in a tournament (as well possible a practice round).
  • Golf trip.

It gets better as they get older. But enjoy this time. It goes really fast!

Similar for me, but how do you get your wife not to mind your being gone? I need to know lol!

I joined a semi-private course 3 years ago so I mainly play there now to get my money’s worth. I do play other places every so often, but it’s been pretty hard to get tee times this year. Luckily our pro and asst pro have been able to get us out other places when our club has had an event going on.

I think I must be super annoying so she’s okay with me not being around. That’s all I really have.

I play 2-3 nine rounders before or after work each week at a place that I have a pass. But - on weekends and when invited, I love playing other courses…there are so many good ones (IMO) around the Salt Lake City area. You can choose mountain, parkland, even a few links courses…and if you drive for 3-4 hours you can do desert style as well.

My wife says I’m super annoying, but apparently the biggest part of that is my wanting to play golf Saturday AND Sunday.

I usually only do Saturdays. But I did sneak in a few more Sundays due to COVID than I would have in the past. Now that we’re going to church again, I avoid Sundays unless it’s a tournament.

In my case … summer and weekends as she’s still working, I’m retired … she’s out on the course with me!
