Payne's Valley Cup - did you like it?

Curious if anyone got a chance to watch the match yesterday between Tiger/JT & Rory/Rose? What did you think?

I was a big fan of Shell’s Wonderful World of Golf and the Skins exhibition matches when I was a kid, so I’m happy to see these exhibition formats coming back. I think they’re getting better and better, and hoping to see more of them. It helps break up the monotony of PGA Tour stroke-play events (there are going to be 50 this year!).

Also, I REALLY want to play golf at Big Cedar Lodge. They’ve got some amazing courses there now. Very smart marketing move by them!

Lucky enough to catch most of it. I think the most impressive shot to me was Rory picking that wedge clean off of the green! Also loved the players being mic’d up, and getting to eaves drop on some of their conversations about gear (and pizza). Brother in law just played Ozark National there, he said it was amazing.

Loved to hear the banter and back and forth, during what was basically a 4-hour long commercial for Big Cedar Lodge. Looks like the type of place I could both bring my family to, or grab a bunch of buddies and make a ‘Guys Trip’ out of it. Either way, definitely added to the list of places to try and visit!

Thought it was great. Much more fun than the previous exhibitions. I could listen to these guys talk about shot shaping and selection all day.

I could’ve done without the old guys there. I’m getting a little tired of the back in my day stuff and Player’s rant about trees while they were playing about five minutes away from a course with zero trees (because they were all removed) designed by - OH! - Gary Player!

The course looks phenomenal. I’ve been to Big Cedar a number of times. I can’t wait to get back and play PV.

It’s on my list of golf trips to make… granted, I haven’t played French lick and it’s 90 minutes away.

It was great. It was really cool how they played the three different formats. It is also great to watch some of the best golfers in the world from start to finish. You see all of the mistakes, all of the missed putts, makes playing at a higher level start to seem much more feasible. It’s gets tiring watching all of the best shots and putts and thinking that’s how every PGA pro plays. The course was beautifully designed, in my opinion, even I could hit those fairways, but that’s the point, you want people to come play again. I think more matches like this one and the two “match’s” would really increase viewership of golf. I know being mic’d up is kind of taboo, but sure does make it more interesting for the non-golf enthusiasts.

Pro mishits make me happy. Knowing Justin Rose would’ve been staring down double from that overcooked whip hook he hit into the abyss made me feel better about the occasional one I hit.

Just wanted to say Thank you Jon for starting this. Great content and this will be a fun place to check in and chat.

You’re welcome! Thanks for being here :grinning:

I like anytime they do things like this and give you sound on the players during the round. Even if sometimes it can be forced (or they’re being a bit fake), it’s nice to listen in and hear what they’re thinking about a shot, etc.

It would be more fun to get some guys who don’t get along playing a team match and listen in on the real trash talk/commentary.

:joy: This is hilarious Jon. Who draws first blood?! Can you go for the weak spots like Brooks’ knee?! I think there would be some definite viewership in there. Hey might as well throw DJ in the mix just to taunt Brooks.

In all seriousness it would be great to get a match between two guys who have some bad blood between one another. I know what we’ve seen so far is amongst buddies, but that would be must-see TV IMO!

I couldn’t agree more. It would be interesting to see how it affects them on the course when they have to walk together for 18 holes.

I was able to catch some of it and plan on watching the recording of it. Personally, I am a enjoy these matches more than PGA events anymore. It is more relatable and I love having the players mic’d up. Its fun to see what they have to say on both golf and non-golf topics.

I really enjoyed it! I love the players mic’d up in a semi-competitive setting. I’m hoping for more of these exhibitions to be televised!

I enjoyed it, and the course and scenery looked spectacular.
Fun to hear the guys joking around, pick the right players and it could be great.
Best line was when JT referred to Tiger as Dum-Dum for having his name on the ball!
