Here down under the increase in rounds was partly due to golf being one of the few things you could do during the lockdown and the fact that no one can travel so all the members that usually travel overseas are stuck here so play golf. When we were 2 player groups not everybody who wanted to play could get a tee time even though the course was closed to non members. Now with no restrictions the course is busy but with plenty of gaps. There are about 275 spots available every day with normally around 100 free spots although if you take the last spot you only have enough daylight for 9 holes
I moved to Florida from Europe in Mar 2020 at height of lockdown and to my surprise and pleasure all courses around me were open.
Single cart riding which made it quicker anyway but my group i joined with, we have since then til today had to book tees a week in advance as it was so busy during week.
Bow Now we’re entering fall, the fair weather golfers are returning too so nigh on impossible to get a weekend time.
But still, great for game of golf!!
It is crazy that a pandemic could be a positive thing for golf. However, when the country shut down it was one of the only thing’s left open to enjoy. Social distancing is easy to maintain at the golf course and it gets you out of quarantine. It was a perfect recipe to get people involved for the first time or reintroduced after a long layoff. Hopefully it sticks (well kind of) I did like having my choice of tee times but it’s great to see the growth of the game.
It is really awesome to see that the health of the game is so strong. I have not seen the increases at my local smaller rural level, but have seen a lot of the stats that are in the OP.
Yes! And golf is a sanity - saver during this pandemic - can’t visit or shop like I used to, and golfing solo is quite acceptable! Beats weeding the garden also, LOL
