Cleaning Clubs. What's your Style?

Since I’m not playing today, I’m getting ready to do a full out club cleaning. Some slightly soapy water (don’t want to leave any soap residue on the face!), brush and sponge, groove tool, orange goo gone on the shafts. I’ll do this maybe once a month (10-15 rounds). During/after rounds it’s just a quick brush out and wipe down. I don’t keep my clubs pristine, but I like them to look decent (and of course be as fully functional as possible).
What’s your cleaning routine (if one exists)? Any particular products or tools you recommend for the job?

In the good old days when I was young and keen I would give them a good clean after every round, now it’s probably more like a couple of times a year. That said I do give a club a wipe after every shot before it goes back in the bag

Cleaning my clubs is one of my favorite things to do. Sometimes I do it even when they don’t need it. It’s a huge stress reliever for me.

I use Dawn soap and water in a Home Depot bucket. I use the soft scrubber on my Frogger for cleaning and sometimes a stiff bristle toothbrush for all the nooks and crannies. Line up 5 or 6 cheap white garage towels and settle in. Turn on some music. Almost better than being on a boat.

Alright, clubs are cleaned. Did both the starting lineup and the bench (although since the golf rack is getting pretty packed, I think most of the bench is going up on the FB marketplace soon). Finished just as my audiobook was finishing (lecture series on the ancient civilizations of Mesoamerica) and my 8yo daughter helped with the scrubbing, so it was pretty perfect.

OK, I may be a cretin, but it’s spit and a towel for me. If I pull one that I didn’t clean well enough before I put it away, I do it before I hit a shot. I have beer to drink nd good food to cook, I don’t clean clubs at home.

What do you use to clean the grooves on the golf clubs?
I used a wet toothbrush and a wet towel, but they still doesn’t get all the dirt out.

I’ve rarely needed more than a wet towel during the round and a bucket of water after the round.

Heads get scrubbed with a groove tube after every shot and the grips are wipped with a towel before every other shot. That’s it.

My scrub brush has a little metal spike on the end that tends to work well. I also have one of the multi-sided groove tools and I’ll sometimes use that with my wedges.

This year, I picked up a newer product: the GrooveIt brush. The brush handle has a small water reservoir, and there’s a button to spray water before brushing. Like @davep043, I’d always been a spitter, so this was a nice upgrade.

It became especially useful this year, without ball washers.

I do a full club cleaning about every 20 rounds, which is about once a month for me. I just use Dawn in water and an old toothbrush to clean the heads. For the grips, I use Lamkin Gripes.

Every few rounds in between, I will clean my putter grip with hot water and the faces of my wedges with hot water and a toothbrush.

Cleaning has always been very important to me; towel on the course, water and towel after the round then full on soap and water every couple weeks. Don’t forget the grips too!

Clean clubs are a must for me. Nothing special here, just a Frogger brush and a wet towel during play. I find if I give them a little more attention with the wet towel at the end of the round, that seems to keep them very playable. Once or twice a year, it’s a 10 minute or so soak in a soapy bucket and then another visit from Froggy.

Nothing worse than iron grooves that are so filled with gunk that they can’t do their job!

Looks like I’m in the minority here, but I don’t remember the last time I did a deep clean on my clubs. I used to clean them so they’d be pristine before a tournament, but it made me think about the golf too much, and then I’d have a hard time sleeping because I’d psych myself up too much. I don’t go the the range often, but will use spit, brush and towel after I hit a few with each club.

Normally I just go to the course and play, no range, and I brush off the loose dirt w/ my hand and stick it back in the bag, and then maybe use the brush when I pull out my club for the next shot, but I don’t typically clean my clubs after the round.

I can vouch for this!

Oh dear. This is beautiful. Can’t imagine this hurts the club at all, right?

Inspired by this thread I did a full set club cleaning this morning.
