It is great to have an opportunity as you have to stay close to the game, doing what you love to do.
I still work part time, half of that is to keep me busy and half is out of necessity to maintain the life style we’re used to, with everything going up in recent years, and we do not wish to move to other area.
Been around here most of my life and one does not like to get our of one’s comfort zone in our age group.
As one of my friends said, if he ever needs to get shoes resoled ( who does that these days? ) he would know exactly where to go, and the establish healthcare connection is valuable. Although more than half of our frequent physicians are also at the age of retirement.
I used to want to get on the golf course as often as I could, but in these days, 2-3 times each week is about where the comfort zone is.
I tried to volunteer at the local junior events and even the First Tees, but there are plenty of volunteers already. Getting a part time job or a volunteer position at our local golf courses was another choice, until the State decided everyone should be compensated ( at minimum wage) instead of swapping service for free rounds of golf.
Luckily, I picked up working on golf clubs as a hobby several decades ago and this should keep me busy working on golf clubs within my sphere of influence. I tend not to get involved too deep because one can not make up the compensation without getting fully immersed into it as a full time position, plus there are plenty of competition already.
So, working on my own stuff + family members and close friends who might need work on their golf clubs.
I don’t wish to spend in upward of $8K-$10K to set up a shop. A few simple tools can perform the caveman’s work, as the same level as a few decades ago.
To commit to rules and regulations of this game on a higher level is probably the additional time which I don’t have now.
Some times, a cup of tea and a good read will keep me happy for awhile. That, and my wife’s cooking.
